Rookie tales: The two newest Bassmaster Classic rookies could hardly be more different from each other.
One, Andrew Upshaw, is 24 years old, just out of college and living in Hemphill, Texas, working an office job. The other, Kelly Pratt, is a 52-year-old veteran tournament angler and landscape professional from Williamsburg, Va.

RICHMOND, Va. — Kelly Pratt was at a loss for words after winning the first Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Northern Open on the James River. His three-day catch of 42-6 was good enough to best runner-up Randall Tharp by more than 5 pounds.
“I can’t even describe this right now. It’s a dream come true,” he said.

RICHMOND, Va. — Kelly Pratt of Williamsburg, Va., is one day away from earning a berth in the 2012 Bassmaster Classic. He extended his lead on Day Two of the first 2011 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Northern Open at the James River despite catching less than he did on Day One. He brought 13-13 to the scales today for a total of 30-3. Once again he drew on his nearly 40 years of experience on the James to retain his lead.

RICHMOND, Va. — Kelly Pratt of Williamsburg, Va., put his vast knowledge of the James River to work for him today as he sacked 16 pounds, 6 ounces to take the lead in the first stop of the 2011 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Northern Opens. Though he burned a considerable amount of gas, most of his fish came from one log.
