41 pound 8 ounce monster possible new world record

MADISON – It’s official: the 41 pound, 8 ounce brown trout Roger Hellen of Franksville caught in Lake Michigan on July 16 is now a Wisconsin state record fish.
The Department of Natural Resources received Hellen’s application earlier this week and has confirmed the new state record, which smashes the old record by nearly 5 pounds. The previous record was 36 pounds 8.9 ounces and 40.5 inches for a fish caught August 23, 2004, in Lake Michigan in Kewaunee County.

ESPN to drop all outdoors programming in 2011, keeping BASS, so far

Several sources are reporting today the ESPN will cancel all outdoors programming for 2011 though they are keeping BASS. So far. ESPN spokespersons state that BASS events fit their programming focus. Rumors have been rampant for some time about the sale of BASS but are rumors only to date.
Worlds Greatest Fishing Show host Mark Zona reports he will have a new home for his show in 2011 and a new title since ESPN owns the title. Expect more details as the season progresses. Bassfan report here.

SHAWANO, Wis. -It's been a tough fight for the whisker-snouted sturgeon.
The fish survived whatever killed the dinosaurs and have struggled against habitat destruction and overfishing. Now many of its 25 species are endangered, but a small pocket in upper Wisconsin boasts of having one of the world's largest concentrations of the fish.

LAINGSBURG — Tim Machowicz envisioned improved boating access on Lake Ovid in Sleepy Hollow State Park five years ago — and it is now a reality.
The Lake Ovid boating access site began closing intermittently Thursday and will continue to do so through June 30 for site redevelopment and paving improvements at Sleepy Hollow State Park, 7835 E. Price Road in Laingsburg.
Machowicz, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Park Supervisor at Sleepy Hollow, said this will be a great benefit to the public and those who use the boat launch on a regular basis. Read Complete Article on The Argus Press
