Johnson lands 8-pounder to highlight tourney
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Travis Johnson felt a tug on his line while he was getting a bass fishing lesson Saturday morning from Bassmaster Elite Series pro Keith Poche. “I felt something, so I pulled on it a little bit, and it pulled back,” Johnson said. “I went to set the hook and it darn near took the pole out of my hands.”

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Six wounded service members sponsored by Hope For The Warriors® have been invited by B.A.S.S. to participate in Toyota Trucks All-Star Week. The wounded heroes will be paired with six Bassmaster Elite Series anglers to fish on a private lake near Montgomery, Ala., Saturday, July 30, 2011. Elite Series anglers participating are Keith Poche of Troy, Ala., Greg Vinson of Wetumpka, Ala., and four anglers eliminated from the All-Star competition. Anglers will be given four hours to fish, and final results will be revealed on the Bassmaster stage.

FLORENCE, Ala. — Dam largemouth: Keith Poche nailed seventh place on Day One with 20 pounds, 3 ounces of largemouth bass — all taken, he said, within 20 feet of the Wilson Dam.
Poche is bucking the trend of smallmouth catches in the tailrace. He said at least one other leader, Davy Hite, is fishing within 50 feet of him, catching smallmouth from the same spot.

Keith Poche will be sponsored in 2011 by Bonnie Plants, an Alabama-based grower of bedding plants for home gardeners.
“It’s a great deal, I’m excited,” said Poche, a second-year Bassmaster Elite Series pro who lives in Troy, Ala. “I approached them in 2009, soon after I qualified for the Elites. They contacted me this year and said they were ready to do something.”
