CELEBRATION, Fla. — B.A.S.S. LLC announced the 2012 schedule today for a three-division Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Open circuit that will hit nine bass fisheries in nine different states.

Timing on the fisheries was a top consideration in creation of the schedule — Lake Norman and Table Rock in April, and the James River in July, for example. So was geography: south to Florida, west into Texas, and north to Michigan. A fresh challenge was added with a Cayuga Lake tournament; that one is in August, perfect timing for upstate New York.

CELEBRATION, Fla. — Veteran publishing industry executive Bruce Akin of Birmingham, Ala., has been named chief executive officer of B.A.S.S. LLC, the company announced today.

Akin, who currently serves as president of ChipRewards Inc., a healthcare incentive and rewards company, previously held several key positions at Birmingham-based Southern Progress Corp., a subsidiary of Time Inc., between 1985 and 2008.

What were Bill Dance and Jerry McKinnis fighting about in the July 14 Bassmaster.com video?

Rumor has it that the fight began when they exchanged words over who gets to run the trolling motor when they share a boat for the upcoming Bassmaster Legends tournament. A scuffle ensued, the camera rolled. Interviewer Tommy Sanders tried to pull Dance and McKinnis apart. Hair was mussed, objects dropped to the floor.
