BRANSON, Mo. — Fishing was tough enough before Mother Nature threw a curve for the opening pitch of the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Central Open today at Table Rock Lake.
A prolonged Indian summer has kept bass in a holding pattern for weeks at Table Rock and the first major cold front of autumn hit this week to put the fish into more of a fall funk. Despite the tough conditions, Harrison, Ark., angler Robbie Dodson Jr. relied on his experience at Table Rock Lake to amass a five-fish limit weighing 15 pounds, 9 ounces to take the pro division lead in the third and final Bassmaster Central Open.

BRANSON, Mo. — In the 14th century, a nun and outdoor-sports addict named Dame Juliana Berners wrote a book that’s now generally accepted as the oldest known work on fishing by a woman.
Centuries later, Janet Parker of Little Elm, Texas, is poised to be the next pioneer of women in fishing. She’s second in points in the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Central Open circuit, a prime position to close on an invitation issued to the season’s top five to move up to the Bassmaster Elite Series. The 2012 Elite qualifiers from the Central Open will be determined when the season wraps up Saturday on Table Rock Lake out of Branson.

The Bassmaster Elite Series makes its way to Toledo Bend Reservoir April 14-17 for the TroKar Battle on the Bayou
James Niggemeyer will always have an unusual story to tell of competition on Toledo Bend. In March 2009, Niggemeyer triumphed there in a rare overtime fish-off for first place in the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Central Open. He sweated it out, spending up to 30 minutes on a single bedding bass before the ticking clock pushed him to the next spot. But in 3 1/2 hours, he ended up with more weight than Jerrel Pringle did, and their tie was broken in Niggemeyer’s favor.
