BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — B.A.S.S., upon the recommendation of its Bassmaster Elite Series Rules Committee, has amended its tournament rules to limit anglers competing in the Bassmaster Classic and Bassmaster Elite Series to the use of a single lure during practice and competition.

At the end of January through early July, Chrysler Engineer Ryan Said will make his mark on some of the best lakes in the Southwest U.S. during the Bassmaster Classic in New Orleans and the 2011 Bassmaster Elite Series. During the series, Said’s primary sponsor will be Ram Trucks – supplying Said with, among other things, a 1500 Ram Outdoorsman.

Michael Iaconelli, the 2003 Bassmaster Classic champ and 2006 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year, once considered becoming a hockey pro.
It’s true — and, according to Iaconelli, a fact not publicly revealed before now.
The story came to light because of a humorous video titled Ice Trolling that’s posted on his website. In it, the Bassmaster Elite Series pro expertly glides across frozen water. When asked where he learned to skate so well, he revealed that he came close to pursuing a career chasing pucks.

BASS, the worldwide authority on bass fishing, announced Thursday that Mercury will extend its sponsorship of BASS as an official engine sponsor of the organization in 2011. As part of the agreement, Mercury will be an official sponsor of the Bassmaster Classic, Bassmaster Elite Series, Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens and the BASS’ Federation Nation.

Two Classic Spots Up for Grabs
With weights lower than expected at the season-ending 2010 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Northern Open, Nate Wellman of Newaygo, Mich., surprised everyone – himself included – when he toted 18 pounds, 6 ounces, to the scales. Wellman’s total puts him more than 1 pound in front of second-place Kyle Walling of Fisherville, Ky.
