It’s all about fall bass fishing on Ohio River
MAYSVILLE, KY. (Sept. 8, 2011) – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to the Ohio River Sept. 17-18 for its fifth and final stop in the Buckeye Division. This is a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
“The fish should be starting their fall pattern,” said Walmart FLW pro Christian Romans of Carrollton, Ky. “Mouths and tributaries will be good, as will the flats in creeks if guys can find baitfish there.
“Another major pattern could be the river system,” Romans added. “If you get some rainfall, and it starts moving the water, someone could fish the main river with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Anytime you have moving water it could play a big role in the tournament. I think 8 to 10 pounds per day is usually a pretty safe bet to win on the Ohio River.”
Takeoffs will be at Maysville River Park located at 100 Main St. in Maysville at 7:30 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3:30 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walmart located at 240 Wal Mart Way in Maysville. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
