Bass Have Started Migration and are Starting Fall Pattern
GOLCONDA, Ill. (Sept. 15, 2010) – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to the Ohio River/Golconda Sept. 25-26 for the fifth and final stop in the Illini Division for a two day Super Tournament. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
“The river should be in pretty good shape due to the dry conditions,” said FLW Tour pro Christian Romans of Carrollton, Ky., who has one victory and one top-10 finish on the Ohio River. “Anglers should key in on the mouths and creeks as the bass have started to follow the bait fish up into the creeks.
“The early morning topwater bite could also be good on the main river,” added Romans. “I would try a buzzbait or a Pop-R. No matter how anglers fish this is going to be a tough tournament and they are going to have to execute to win. They are fishing for five bites and they better get all five of them in the boat.”
Romans believes that conditions on the river are pretty stable and will not change between now and next weekend, however, if by chance there is a lot of rain the river will rise and get muddy making for an even tougher bite. Under current conditions he believes that it will take eight to nine pounds per day to win.
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Golconda Marina located on Highway 146 North in Golconda, Ill. Takeoffs each day are scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-ins are scheduled for 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
