Gov. Walker of Wisconsin signing the bill allowing culling in bass tournaments (SB-62)
Kathy Fennel, President of FLW Outdoors Operations Division reports that,
“The state of Wisconsin made a positive move today that will benefit the fishing industry and the state’s economy with the signing of the bill lifting culling restrictions for bass tournaments. FLW Outdoors fully supports this move. This opens the opportunity to bring a major FLW tournament to Wisconsin. Some of the finest fisheries and fishing enthusiasts are located in Wisconsin. This is a great move for the sport and will also serve as an economic stimulus to the state.”

There are a number of significant changes to Michigan fishing regulations that affect many anglers including a major new allowance to legal possession limits with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources adding two additional daily possession limits of fish. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has begun gearing up to return hatchery production of walleyes to historic levels.
The DNRE plans to take some 50 million eggs this spring to produce fry for pond-rearing and direct stocking, an eight-fold increase over the last two years.

41 pound 8 ounce monster possible new world record

MADISON – It’s official: the 41 pound, 8 ounce brown trout Roger Hellen of Franksville caught in Lake Michigan on July 16 is now a Wisconsin state record fish.
The Department of Natural Resources received Hellen’s application earlier this week and has confirmed the new state record, which smashes the old record by nearly 5 pounds. The previous record was 36 pounds 8.9 ounces and 40.5 inches for a fish caught August 23, 2004, in Lake Michigan in Kewaunee County.

LAINGSBURG — Tim Machowicz envisioned improved boating access on Lake Ovid in Sleepy Hollow State Park five years ago — and it is now a reality.
The Lake Ovid boating access site began closing intermittently Thursday and will continue to do so through June 30 for site redevelopment and paving improvements at Sleepy Hollow State Park, 7835 E. Price Road in Laingsburg.
Machowicz, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Park Supervisor at Sleepy Hollow, said this will be a great benefit to the public and those who use the boat launch on a regular basis. Read Complete Article on The Argus Press
MDNRE Invites Public to Discuss Draft Deer Management Plan

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment is inviting the public to participate in the deer management planning process. Throughout February and March, eight public open house meetings will be held across Michigan to discuss the draft statewide deer management plan. These meetings will be held 7 to 9 p.m. EST, with the exception of the Crystal Falls meeting, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. CST.
