Cliff Pace got a surprise package Friday. He was presented with a Bassmaster Classic ring, which he earned last February. "It was totally a surprise — a good one," he said. Soon after he received the diamond-encrusted ring, he learned that his 14 pounds, 4 ounces of Muskegon Lake bass was enough to take the first-day lead in the Evan Williams Bourbon Championship out of Muskegon Lake.

The Bassmaster Elite Series Plano Championship Chase was billed as Lake St. Clair's chance to show the world why it was named the best bass fishing lake in the U.S. But Lake Erie and Lake Huron didn't follow the script, stealing the limelight from Lake St. Clair and putting the great in Great Lakes bass fishing.

Detroit Lions players, bass fishing pros and sponsors battled the elements and the bass on Monday in the 2nd annual Detroit Lions / KVD Charity Fishing Tournament. And like last year@apos;s inaugural event, the bass proved to be a tougher opponent than any the Lions will likely face on Sundays.

On September 10, 1813 U.S. Navy Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry took advantage of a wind shift on Lake Erie to defeat a British squadron in the Battle of Put-in-Bay. Nearly two hundred years later, Bassmaster Elite Series pros are looking forward to another potential Lake Erie battle for a chance to be crowned 2013 Angler of the Year.

It might surprise some to learn that only 14 states have produced more Bassmaster Classic qualifiers than Michigan. Thirty six have come from Michigan since the Classic debuted in 1971 and only six times in the last 32 years has it failed to produce a qualifier.

The 2013 KVD Charity Classic returns to Kent Lake Monday, June 10, 2013 allowing anglers the chance to fish and compete with the Detroit Lions andseven-time BASS Angler of the Year, Kevin VanDam. The event consists of a day on the lake competing with Coach Jim Schwartz, players, alumni, KVD and other Elite Anglers.
