Every young tournament angler shares the same dream - making it pro. But in today's world this dream is often laughed at by society. I have had countless people tell me "that isn't realistic," or that I'm full of myself for thinking I could ever become a professional.

There are a wide variety of sports and competitions that take place on the high school level. From football to cross country, from volleyball to soccer, student athletes have a bevy of extracurricular options to pursue. Some of these garner more attention than others, while some of the less traditional high school sports are given barely any attention at all from 98% of their communities.

REDDING, Calif. (Jan. 28, 2012) – The Oregon State University team of Zach MacDonald, of Willits, Calif. and William Sparks, of Corvallis, Ore. won the National Guard FLW College Fishing West Conference event on Lake Shasta Saturday with five bass weighing 9 pounds, 4 ounces. The victory earned the team $5,000. The win also helped them advance to the West Conference Regional Championship.

CARBONDALE, Mo. (Oct. 8, 2011) – The Northwestern team of Jimmy Morrow, Arlington Heights, Ill., and Matthew Kestufskie, Evanston, Ill., failed to weigh a bass on Saturday, but had enough weight from the previous two days to win the National Guard FLW College Fishing Central Regional Championship with a three day total of five bass weighing 12 pounds, 14 ounces. For their victory Northwestern University won $50,000 to be split between the university and the university’s bass fishing club - $12,500 and a Ranger 177TR with a 90-horsepower outboard wrapped in school colors for the bass club and $12,500 for their school.

Georgia’s McIntosh High School wins High School Southeast Regional
AUBURN, Ala. (Sept. 10, 2011) – The University of Georgia team of Randy Tolbert, Jr. of Rome, Ga., and Chase Simmemon of Alto, Ga., went wire-to-wire to win the National Guard FLW College Fishing Southeast Division Regional Championship presented by Evinrude and hosted by Auburn University on Lake Harding Saturday with five bass weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces for a three-day total of 24-4. The team beat their closest competitor, Clemson University, by 7 pounds, 8 ounces and won $50,000 to be split between the university and the university’s bass fishing club - $12,500 and a Ranger 177TR with a 90-horsepower outboard wrapped in school colors for the bass club and $12,500 for their school.

AUBURN, Ala. (Sept. 10, 2011) – Spc. Taylor McManus and Sgt. Caleb Hampton won the National Guard FLW Soldier Appreciation Tournament held on Lake Harding Saturday. The team, fishing with National Guard FLW College Fishing angler Andrew Gordon of Mississippi State, caught two bass for a total of 3 pounds, 13 ounces to take the title and bragging rights amongst their peers.
