Beginners Bass Fishing Class May 13

In this class for beginners, starting at 10 a.m., the Outdoor Skills Academy pro-staff will present various strategies and techniques for chasing northern Michigan bass. Feel free to bring your own gear. This clinic will cover a wide range of techniques for pursuing both smallmouth and largemouth bass, but will focus on the use of various plastic presentations, including Texas rigging, Carolina rigging, tube jigs, etc. Cost for this class is $25.

9.98 pound smallmouth bass landed from the Indian River
UPDATE: Bruce Kraemer's giant smallmouth bass was certified as the new Michigan state record a couple days later by the Michigan DNR.Bruce Kraemer of Indian River, Michigan likes to fish the Indian River. It's just a few hundred feet from his house so it's convenient to fish his favorite shore fishing point. On September 11 Bruce was using his favorite rig he calls the tri-rig - a three way rig with a weight dropper. Bruce does this to keep the gobies from gobbling up his live nightcrawler he uses for bait.
Greg Gasiciel Lands Michigan State Record Smallmouth Bass

Rhodes, Michigan bass tournament angler Greg Gasiciel landed the smallmouth bass of a lifetime Sunday, October 18, 2015 while fishing the Bass Anglers of the Sunrise Side Hubbard Lake Open. Gasiciel was fishing a grub shallow along the shoreline when the giant 9.32 pounds smallmouth bass bit. Tournament partner Scott Somerfield netted the monster smallmouth bass.

Special programming and hours mark launch of MDNR's Detroit site that aims to bring Up North, DowntownAfter nearly three years of planning, renovation, exhibit construction and final touches, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Adventure Center in downtown Detroit is ready to open its doors Monday, July 20. The Outdoor Adventure Center – located across from William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor at the intersection of Atwater Street and the Dequindre Cut Trail – brings "Up North, Downtown" through hands-on, interactive exhibits and experiences about Michigan's out-of-doors in the three-story, 41,000-square-foot indoor facility.

Public open house on proposed acquisition of property on Eagle Lake for boating access site set for May 30
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) will conduct a public open house to gather input on the proposed acquisition of property on Eagle Lake in Cass County for development of a boating access site. The open house will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Our Lady of the Lake Church Social Hall, located at 24832 U.S. 12 in Edwardsburg, Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reminds everyone the annual Summer Free Fishing Weekend is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10. On that weekend, everyone - residents and non-residents alike - can fish without a license, though all other fishing regulations still apply.
