The Brazilian government confirmed this week the existence of an uncontacted tribe in a southwestern area of the Amazon rain forest. Three large clearings in the area had been identified by satellite, but the population's existence was only verified after airplane expeditions in April gathered more data, the National Indian Foundation said in a news release Monday.

Randy VanDam and GreatLakesBass.com are heading to the mighty Rio Negro with two groups in January 2012. Already one member of GreatLakesBass.com is confirmed going which is nice because I like to fish with my friends! The first week's group, approximately January 7 - 14, 2012, is full. We have a few spots left with the second group yet, but time is running out! We have to close it off and turn it in to the outfitter soon so he has time to fill the remaining spots.

In the lush rainforests of the Amazon, scientists have discovered a blue-fanged bird-eating spider, a black and blue-colored poison dart frog, a pink river dolphin and a camouflaged anaconda. These and thousands of other species were discovered in the Amazon between 1999 and 2009, at the average rate of one new species every three days

While fishing the Rio Negro deep in the NW part of the Amazon in Brazil, Jim Taylor decided he'd like a picture of a small caiman like Randy VanDam did the day before. After spotting a possible subject floating in a backwater, Jim hooks into a beast that turns out to be a big full grown 8 foot spectacled caiman. And he's an angry caiman!

Peacock bass fishing along the Rio Negro is a total adventure. The trip was made up of some expected and even hoped for happenings, pretty much all of it a first for me. Some parts of the first time adventure were completely unexpected. Steve's apocalypse definitely falls into the latter category
