Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Fished Reeds Lake for a few hours this morning and caught my new personal best largemouth which weighed 6lbs 12 oz.  Best 5 were conservatively estimated around 17 lbs. (who hasn't had these days on this lake).  Fish were caught on 5xd crankbaits and football jigs.  The water was very murky like the lake was turning over.  We also noticed something that I still haven't figured out... there were fish jumping all over the lake, not out of the water but seemed like bass feeding... all day long, like I've never seen before.  Also had some white baitfish looking thing follow my 5x to the boat.  Is there some kind of weird landlocked baitfish population living in there or is there a certain species of fish that maybe spawns this time of year?? So a new personal best but ended the day knocking my brand new phone into the water right at the boat launch.  Wanted my SD card so I was looking for it in jeans and a t shirt right off the end of the dock with a bunch of East Grand Rapids folks wondering what i was doing (the boat launch is in the middle of a public park).  Never did find it but the big bass makes that hit a little easier to take :)

Very jealous. Nice fish. My phone has the only camera I typically carry. I would have been screwed. I wouldn't have even had a picture of the big one.

I'm usually in the same boat but I was lucky enough to send it to a buddy before I drowned mine

I'm thinking I should invent a floating cell phone, or maybe a cell phone tether or recovery system for anglers and boaters?!?

Huge bass! Very impressive for an 'urban' lake. Reeds seems to have quite a population of bass. Maybe thanks to those weird bait fish you're talking about? Seems like I have read that many baitfish do spawn during the fall. Sounds like it might be some kind of shiner - like the ones in Lake Ovid I see at times.

Back to your cell phone and my first paragraph... maybe I should delete it so someone else doesn't see my idea and get rich off of it!?! ;D

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Yep. Waterproof cases already on market.

Wow nice fish. Dan, just make a better more fisherman friendly device. I've lost my share of cell phones in the lake so it would be well worth buying one for me.

Skulley

Nice fish!! Those are great days to be having on the water.
