The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced public forums again will be held throughout the state this year (2017), inviting the public to discuss local and statewide fisheries management activities and concerns.

At its meeting Thursday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved sweeping changes to streamline bass regulations and increase effectiveness. Commissioners meeting at the Florida Institute of Public Safety near Tallahassee approved implementation of new black bass conservation measures, which will go into effect July 1.

Due to Unexpected Circumstances Michigan Bass Season Decision Delayed Until April 9th
Legislation was reintroduced in this new session that would give fisheries order authority back to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) early allowing the seven Commissioners to vote on the bass season a month early at the March 19th meeting. Unfortunately, the new leadership of the 2015-16 Legislature has decided they will no longer use immediate effect during this entire 2-year legislative session.

Over 297,000 Michigan voter signed petition to base wildlife decisions on sound science.
LANSING (August 13, 2014)—The Michigan Senate passed the Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act on August 13, a citizen initiative brought to the Legislature by the signatures of almost 300,000 registered Michigan voters led by the Citizens for Professional Wildlife Management, a coalition of conservation, hunting, fishing and trapping organizations.

Public meetings schedule and online survey available for anglersIn order to get public input on proposed regulations to expand Michigan's bass fishing seasons, the Department of Natural Resources has announced an online survey and public meetings throughout the state in July. For the past year the DNR's Fisheries Division has been working with the Warmwater Resources Steering Committee to discuss expansion of bass seasons.
