This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Just an FYI if you plan on being out on the water the next few days according to Accuweather they are calling for 45mph gusts and NOAA has small craft advisories posted for LSC....Go to GLB weather portal for more info for your area...

I am not sure if it has something to do with the hurricane or not...Probably...

can't let a little breeze keep you off the water!  I'll be out on either the detroit River or in the st. clair river.  Atleast the crappy weather should keep the tuna boats away.

If you scroll down the page (even the 'kids' can do this though it won't stop them from going out anyway!! ;D) on the right edge, you'll see a graphic for access to The Weather Channel and right above it a link to the GreatLakesBass.com weather links portal.

I'll tell you, the wind is ripping over here on the west side today.  I heard something about 10 footers on Lake Michigan.  I should go take some pictures.

I'm in Holland and it's whipping here too!  I wanted to fish Mona tomorrow since the ramp just got done but probably won't end up doing that anymore!  Looks like windblown points on Sunday might be the ticket!

The high winds are a product of the western cold front. 62° as I write this!

High winds have already turned up the heat with the crank and trap bite this afternoon - even the musky were chasing today!!!!!

I always fish Mona when the winds are bad.  It gets a little choppy at times, but never as rough as Muskegon and White.  The main part east of the bridge is the worst.  Seems like the west side is always relatively calm due to how narrow it is.  I wouldn't let a little wind keep me from Mona.  I would be there today, but I have to work.

Those darn Indian spammers... there's just too many of them. But that one won't be back! I promise.

So, when faced with high winds like we have had lately, how do you fish the lake?

Location?
Technique?
Seasonal differences?
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

On the big pond:
1.  It limits where you can physically run without tearing stuff up.
2.  It changes water clarity - avoid the mud.  MODIS is your best buddy this time of year.

Inland in Michigan (small lakes) - I pretty much ignore the wind and fish the "good stuff" regardless of location.

i love the wind this time of year.  it positions the fish and makes them easier to find i think.  fish the windiest shorelines you can find with spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, jerkbaits, jigs, shallow cranks.  the wind has been my friend in the last couple tournaments i have fished.

McCarter himself :-\'

The wind muddys up the water and a lipless crank seemed to be the ticket this last weekend. Fished tournaments at Grand lake and lots of guys caught them on Rattle traps.
