I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Detroit Lions Kevin VanDam Charity Fishing Tournament set for June 12

Charity Fundraiser will be held at Kensington Metropark, Kent Lake in Milford

Allen Park, Mich. - The Detroit Lions have announced the date for a new and exciting fundraiser for Detroit Lions Charities (DLC), the organization's philanthropic foundation. The Inaugural Detroit Lions/Kevin VanDam Charity Fishing Tournament will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Kensington Metropark on Kent Lake in Milford, Mich.

The fishing tournament is open to the public with sponsorship levels available.

I'm all about giving to charities. I donate a lot of time too. But, $500 a person? A little out of my league. Sounded like a fun day too.

bsimpson

I was all excited about this tournament too, but not for that amount of money.  Now had I won the Mega Millions lotto last night, I would have paid for everyone's entry fee, but I didn't so everybody's on their own - LOL.

Didn't our Gov do away with that kind of deduction.  would be fun.  anyone interested??

It's a corporate thing guys, their goal is to raise $250,000 for kvd and lion charities.

More to the point, Kevin and Jim really like each other so they said, "hey, I'll get my BASS friends  and you get your (2011 NFL Playoff) players (I'm so proud of them for last year) and we'll take em out fishing.

So 54 boats was about right. There is a price point needed to prevent 500 boats interfering with their fun, which is the big picture purpose of the event. So the incremental "donation" gets you either:

* You and your co get to fish and mingle with the bass pros, lions and kvd for breakfast and dinner and compete against em in a 4 hour event.

* You and your co get all the above plus a Detroit Lion with you

* All the above plus a premier lion (imagine fishing with Mathew Stafford,  CJ or big daddy Suh )

* All above plus fish with kvd and Jim Schwartz for 4 hours.

All for donations in the 4, 5 figure range.  I wouldn't overlook this event. There will be several opportunities for certain companies to participate, and certain ways you can help. This is a perfect example of how people create Win - Wins doing the things they love to do  More details to come. PM me if you're interested. It's also an inaugural event so I may be easing into this the first year.

PS: Anyone catch my sponsor last 6 months ? He is a great, great guy to do business with and is the banner / t shirt guy for this event. He's also Mr. Van Dams materials distributor.  :o.   :o. Yup I'm   ;D;D.  Anyway, PM me with any questions and I'll take em back.

Thanks Dan for bringing year round Catch and Release to Michigan

I believe it does say you can get in on the meet-and-greet food thing for $50. That's getting more in the range of more people. Like I said, I'm waiting for the socks sponsor program... ;D

I imagine there will be a number of GreatLakesBass.com'ers (new word I just made up) involved in one way or another in this event. Which is cool. You all are a great bunch of people to hang out with!

$50 for dinner and to hang out isn't too crazy. Kids 12 and under are free.
The $500 per person for 3 in a boat and you have a chance to win a little prize pack isn't intended to bring out the bass guys but really to keep them away.

I'm sure they accept anyone who wants to give to charity but it is probably more expected to be from businesses and people who want to get some good PR value.

"only largemouth bass can be weighed in"  why no SM?

No idea why it says that. I'll check on it next week and see if I can find out anything. There must be a reason of some type?

From the rules online

" BASS TOURNAMENT - (total weight - 5 fish per team); only large-mouth and small-mouth bass may be weighed; minimum 14" length; only artificial lures are permitted.  All state and federal laws apply.  "

djkimmel

I'm thinking someone edited the press release for the Lions and didn't realize they should leave smallmouth bass in there. Hopefully, that is all it is. Should go by the rules, but somewhere along the way, I will confirm.

No issue with large or smallmouth, I think Dan was right about a misprint. This was taken directly from the KVD website:

Myself and my boat are for rent as a package deal for any one who will be willing to pay the $500 fee. The organization that pays can put anyone in my boat with me. That would be the only way I could afford to participate. They pay, I'll play.

I believe it is 1500.00 to play with up to 3 in a boat with no celebrity.  The price goes up from there.

I am just looking for one of those Corporate Sponsors to pay my way dartag. My point is as long as they pay my fee, I'll take whoever they want to put in my boat with me that has paid their fees.......and whoever is on my boat WILL catch fish.  Otherwise, too rich for my blood.

That would be nice.   If we only knew some rich web site owner.  maybe a bass fishing web site owner.

I agree. If I meet one... I will ask him! Meanwhile, maybe look for me on shore taking pictures and video?

You just need to get out their and find two charitable people to pony up $750 each, use you and your boat and you're in!

I might be involved somehow. I don't often know until the last minute on some things. If I had the budget for it, I would donate for charity. Still working towards that budget. I always want to help make the world a better place any little way I can.
