I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

This is a rod that I am finishing up, I started it about a year ago.  LOL!  The blank is a MHX MB843.  The grips are varigated eva that I turned myself.  And of course a

Nice! I love the EVA too!
I built on an MHX MB843 last winter and fished jigs with it this past summer. (Minima reel seat - Flexlite guides) I love it.

Nice job

Very nice. How does the MHX's compare to say the Loomis IMX blank. I've been wanting to try my hand at building my own but not sure who makes a quality blank at the best price. I like the characteristics and quality of Loomis IMX and GLX's but don't want to spend that kind of money and they are no longer available as a blank. Any suggestions as to who makes the good stuff for the best value???

thedude

looks awesome - i can see why it took so long! i don't have at patience to do the weaves like that - it turned out great.

MBFT - the MHX are copies of the IMX tapers/designs. Bingham enterprises also has a clone (SHX) which seems to be pretty much the same thing. They all came out literally weeks after loomis stopped selling blanks which leads me to believe that some factory had them ready to go and now a few people are selling them as house brands. The graphite/prepeg is not the same design as loomis so the blanks aren't identical in composition. I've heard they are a good 'bang for you buck' but not tried any yet. I've been told by numerous builders they are similar to the rainshadow RX7 - which is nothing to frown on.

If you are looking for IMX/GLX quality - you want to look into Lamiglass high modulus, North Fork Composites or St. Croix SC5 or 6. All US made and high modulus/light weight designs - also all very pricey.

Thanks for the tips.

Very nice rod, I love the bullet and may have to borrow that idea from ya. If you want descent reasonably priced blanks the MHX line are it. The High Mod. versions are even better i have built over 10 of the MHX and 2 HM MHX and I have nothing bad to say about either. The price is right and Pheonix Recon blanks are supposed to be good also, I have never fished one though.
