Grand Traverse Bay is very close to being red hot! On warmer days fish have started to move shallow, and a few beds are starting to show. The mixed wind directions have water temps all over the place from 40.2 to 61. One day the bay is fishing well, and the next you find yourself back out fishing the drops. East bay has shown better numbers shallow then West bay, but the bigger fish have come from the west arm.

Gobie patterns and suspending body baits have been best followed by gobie tubes and spinner baits. Look for warmer weather to put good numbers of smallies in the shallows. The main spawing season will get rolling in the next 2 weeks, and should stay strong until the end of June. Fish up to 7 lbs have already been landed in less than 3' of water if you can find the temps, 54 and up has been the key!
