Fishing lead ban introduced in Michigan again
« on: March 15, 2006, 01:20:08 AM »

I'm definitely against a full lead ban in Michigan. I think it is 'feel-good' legislation that doesn't really accomplish a lot other than hit an industry hard during already shaky economic times. The benefits do not come close to the losses in lure-making. I would expect already expensive tungsten prices to soar too if lead is removed as a cheap competitor (think gas prices). Tungsten is not cheap to obtain and common like lead.

Here is a pdf copy (need Adobe Reader) of the legislation introduced this year in the Michigan Legislature - House Bill No. 5575.

I may be discussing this tomorrow with the MDNR fisheries management team depending on time available and other topics.

Expect more on this legislation later.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
