Move went fine. The new server is much faster. Which is good!

I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

I'm not trying to rush winter. I'm sure some semblance of winter is on the way. That means we are approaching the 2026 Ultimate Sport Show Tour - the three biggest fishing and outdoor sport shows in Michigan!

Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

AS OF 5 PM, THURSDAY MAY 9TH THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO ONLY 1 CONFIRMED LEGISLATOR

So, please don't tell me this is short or late notice! Lots of reasons for that but here we go regardless. I'm trying to get the Michigan Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus Lake St. Clair Bass Fishing Outing going again. Several people are helping to build participation and sign ups from the State Legislators. Maybe a couple already going but also already some good interest within the Michigan Department of Natural Resources too! But I need boater volunteers to take these people out.

That's where you come in! We are going to attempt to duplicate this year what we did the first two times we held this event. We are scheduled to have participants show up Monday, May 13 from 8:00 AM until 8:20 AM at the Lake St. Clair Fisheries Research Station (back end of Harley Ensign Boater Access Site - Clinton River). Once we have everyone matched up and told how things will go we plan to fish Lake St. Clair (catch-and-release only but PLEASE take pictures!) from 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon.

Once everyone is back on shore we'll have a sandwich and beverage lunch (**FREE LUNCH**) back at the Lake St. Clair Fisheries Research Station. We've had great luck in the past getting Legislators to stay. You get an awesome opportunity to get to know your elected officials, and tell them what you like and want maybe. We need them to know us and like us! This is a great way to do that!

I'm looking for boater volunteers who can take 1 or 2 persons out fishing on Lake St. Clair, keep them safe and hopefully catch some of those great spring smallmouth bass out there! Some of these participants may have little or no fishing experience. I ask all volunteers boaters to bring extra life jackets and be prepared to loan out some fishing gear and tackle as they most likely will not have this. Few, if any of them, have fished Lake St. Clair.

We will probably need some legislation soon so having more of these State Representatives and Senators know and like us is pretty important! I want to make sure I have enough boaters for an optimistic sign up despite a later start. So, PLEASE contact me if you can help out!! You'll be doing bass fishing and yourself a great service!

How is this looking this year Dan? Are we a go? How many boats? How many big wigs?

djkimmel

Plenty of boats. Not enough big wigs. I just sent out email to everyone that I am cancelling the 2019 event. Wish I didn't need to but only 1 confirmed Legislator - Sen. Runestad who always signs up and fishes when we fish. I've offered to still take him fishing Monday or some other day to thank him but have notified the rest, the MDNR and MUCC that I am cancelling. We can't have an event with 1 Legislator.

I won't try to schedule another one at this point unless I have a minimum number of confirmed Legislators saying they will fish first. It may just be this newest group of Caucus members does not have enough interest in this type of event. We had good luck with the previous group but lots of new faces due to term limits. There will be new faces in the future as well.

Thank you to all of you who offered to help! It is important! I hope some of you just go fishing anyways. It's good for you and good for Michigan!

djkimmel
