Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Leader on the Pro side Minnetonka MN boater David McCrone with 2 toads from Lake Erie caught slow drop-shotting in about 12 - 16 feet. He's leading with 42-5 so far

Hook 'n' Look Host and Great Lakes smallmouth expert Kim Stricker (Howell MI) is stroking St. Clair smallies like these 2 beauties with a 2-day total of 40-2 in 3rd

I know Mark Modrak is excited making the top 10 cut, fishing for $200,000 in his first FLW Tour event! Do we have another Clapper coming on? Mark's co-angler for the day (background) was MUCC Michigan Out-of-Doors magazine editor and TV host Tony Hansen.

Speaking of Steve Clapper, though he didn't have the tournament this year like last, Steve still boated some nice bass like this one although he struggled on Lake Erie today, catching 3 bass late in the day on the way in. Steve still cashed a nice check in 50th place.

Steve spent some time talking with Charlie Evans up on stage as the defending champion. As usual, Steve is a great ambassador of our sport. Many young anglers would do well to emulate Mr. Clapper.

Several GLBass.com members and regular visitors made the co-angler cut too including South Bend IN regular Ron Fabiszak who anchored a solid limit today with this nice smallie. Ron weighed 32-2 total so far to sit in 9th. Also in the top 10 for us are Mark Frickman in 5th and Mike Weidman sitting very well in 2nd.

Charlie Evans turned the microphone over the Kim Stricker for a while in the tent upon which Kim announced to everyone that he'd picked Mark Modrak to win the whole thing - classic seeing the look on Mark's face being put on the spot like that in his first FLW Tour event!!

GLBass.com member Bryan Coates (Bryan26) wisely decided not to make the huge run across Erie in 6 to 7 footers despite starting the morning sitting pretty in 2nd. Bryan still managed a limit including some largemouth fishing to fill things out. I like a smallmouth expert who's not above putting bass in the boat, and having the good attitude Bryan has about things (this may be the last time I can get a picture of Bryan with a green bass ;D)

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Awesome pics Dan!  I love the coloration on the two slabs Dave McCrone is holding (especially the one on the right!).  It's really cool to see the local guys doing well again this year!  Good use of the verb "stroking" as well Dan... :D
