Move went fine. The new server is much faster. Which is good!

I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Steve Peterson invited me to Lake St. Clair again for a rematch after we didn't really get on them the last recent trip. This was on Sunday, November 6. In the past I've done real well in late fall on St. Clair.

We can't complain about the weather because it was very nice out and calm. We could run just about anywhere.

We stopped by the shipping channel first to get a warm up and Steve hooked a nice smallie on a tube casting crossways to the current almost immediately. Unfortunately, the solid smallmouth jumped right at the boat and threw the hook.

A short time later Steve hooked up again but after a few seconds of head-shaking battle the fish pulled off.

A few minutes later I got my only big bite of the day! It felt heavy when I set the hook on the tube I was hopping in down current. Big, slow head shakes! After a few seconds I knew it wasn't a bass but a really nice 27" walleye is fun to catch on light spinning tackle!

We got one more bite along the shipping channel and then started moving around. We tried all kinds of current and slack spots as far out as 18 to 20 feet of water running way out into the lake looking for some wintering bass. We just couldn't get on them!

We found some perch grass in a few spots and a couple times the graph just lit up but what we ended up catching were a bunch of small perch on various lures. I figured we had to be close to some smallies if there was enough bait to bring in the perch. We just couldn't find them.

It was a nice day to be on the water. We just didn't do much catching. But I'll be back, and Steve and I will probably try again together in the future!

We were soooooo sooo close to open water Tuesday. Then it got cold over night and now its frigid and firming the lakes up, but not enough to walk on. Take your time getting to northern Michigan.
