dartag invited me for a rematch on Kent Lake on Wednesday, 5/11/2016 - a really nice weather day though a little breezy. Not being sure what to expect I packed for sightfishing and prespawn. We got into a little of both.

I was fortunate to start my day whacking a couple nice largemouth bass in shallow bays on my lucky, hot Kustom Kicker Jigs Deposit Spin Titanium Revolution spinnerbait! dartag put me on them.

Later after the bite slowed down shallow and we weren't finding many beds yet we crossed a deeper flat covered with curly cabbage. I pitched into a hole in the weeds about 5 or 6 feet deep and caught a decent small keeper on my Nemesis Baits KLK Bullet Craw.

dartag started pitching into the weeds in any opening or hole and he caught several too though he was camera shy :D

After that seemed to dry up we went looking for beds again and fishing cover near bedding areas. We caught a few here and there. dartag did pretty good past the bridge on his 'Stevie Rig' (a drop shot Case Plastic drop shot / walleye worm) pitching out ahead of the boat including a couple really nice ones. We found some deeper beds but they were hard to catch.

We caught a few off beds. We caught some small pike. We fished a deeper point and caught a few small ones. Nearby we found some more beds and not all of them were empty.

On one bed we were taking turns on dartag was seeing a small largemouth that kept cruising the bed but I could see a nicer smallmouth sitting on the bed. I pitched in the KLK Bullet Craw and the smallie ate it off the bed! Turned out to be a bigger, nicer smallmouth bass than it looked. The bed was deeper than it appeared so refraction gave me a nice surprise.

We finished the day fishing a few beds and the shoreline area around them but didn't catch much more and were out of time. It was a beautiful day and we caught enough bass to keep it interesting. dartag stayed camera shy so I have no pictures of him with any of his bass. Maybe next time... ;D

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
