This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

With the very cool summer we are having it has gotten people a little ??? over where the fish are. Depending on the bug hatch and the wind we have gotten solid reported from shallows and out deep for just about everything. The weeds are very thick in tight to shore but move out to the 6 fow and they thin out and are very easy to drop baits down in.

Bass: The mile roads are producing numbers still. Lipless cranks such has the Duo Vib has worked best for myself. I have also been throwing diving cranks that run 6 to 10 row and doing well. Some baits to try are the Arashi flat 7 and deep 10 from storm, 3xd and 5 xd from strike king and the Dives to in 6 and 10. The new Rasta color and anything that is perched like in color has worked well.

Below is a pic of the new Rasta color which some comes in the Scatter Deep and Dives To

During the bug hatch topwater, Spybaits and Jerk Baits have worked well.Just look for the slick of mayflies, and caddis flies coming up off the water.

Walleye: The walleye seemed to be scatter right now here on the US side of the lake. trying trolling harness on the outside edge of any shore weed edge or out on the humps in the dumping grounds.

Perch: We have gotten spotty reports of perch being caught of the metro beach and all way up to the clinton river for the past few weeks. But in the last few days they have picked up and this morning was good. Fish in 7 to 9 FOW with perch rigs, and slip floats. Emerald Shiners have finally gotten to be the perfect size and are looking heathy has can be. So the perch turning on couldn't have happen any sooner.

White Bass: Try fishing around Gull island on the channel banks and near the buoys. When I was out there at the end of last week we caught some very nice fish up to around 16 inches and lost a pig that had to be close to 18 inches he felt like a huge smallmouth.

Catfish: When we get some strong rains they are coming into the spillway. But if we don't have any rain try fishing the mouth and just off the flat at the mouth of the spillway from a boat for very large catfish.
