Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Hi all,

It was a real pleasure meeting all of you at the meeting. And I would like  to thank everyone for your input on tackle.I did not put my fishing bibles down till 4am sunday morning.I love throwing muskie jerk baits and crank baits,so natrully I have strong interest in useing bass size crankbaits and jerkbaits for both smallmouth and largemouth. I need some ideas on what everybody throws as far as actions.I am thinking medium for crankbaits ,7' in length for medium cranks. For jerkbaits 6'6" in length but not sure on actions,Iwill be throwing luckycraft and smithwicksrouges jerks.Any and all suggestions welcome.

                                          Thanks everyone Bob

Bob, it was a pleasure meeting you.  Thanks for coming out!  I had a great time hanging out with you at Gander Mountain.  That was a much nicer one that than the one up here I thought.  I hope the one on Hall Rd. is making the same changes.

Anyway, I use a Med Heavy rod for most of my baitcasting setups and medium for most of my spinning setups.  There are a few exceptions.  I like a softer rod (and mono) when throwing cranks (and spinnerbaits) to cushion the blow when a fish hits. (sometimes I will stick with floro though because I just like the feel of it better.  Sometimes mono has too much stretch and you can compensate with a softer rod)

I like a shorter, softer rod (6ft.) for hard jerkbaits, so that my arm doesn't fall off by the end of the day.

I like a heavier rod (MH) when fishing tubes in deep water and use braid with a floro leader to feel the bottom and bites better.

And I like a long spinning rod and lighter line when fishing Senko type baits so I can fire them out there farther and with less effort.

Almost all my rods are 7' with the exception of a 6'6" that I use for skipping docks and the 6' that I use for Jerkbaiting.  I can't afford all the specialty rods out there.  Oh... but if I could... ;D
