St.Clair channels

What time of year does the smallmouth action heat up in the channels? Especially the middle channel?

It's not so much a what time of year, as it is a temperature. 
According to Obie Wayne's book "No Secrets Lake St. Clair Vol. 1", the thing to look for is temperature. 

When the temperature reaches 67 degrees (usually by August 1) the River system really starts to turn on. 

I can't find it right now, but I believe he explains that this is due to bait fish moving up into the river from the lake.

Sometimes end of June. Sometimes early July, but usually starts getting good middle of July - this is for the lower and middle part of the River. The far upper part seems to be mixed with fish maybe coming from both north and south. No one knows for sure.
