I had a work appointment on the eastside of the state yesterday, so I decided to take advantage of it and bring my boat to fish LSC for the first time ever. I've always talked about doing it, and now after going I can't believe I waited so long!

I launched out of Bradford park around 3pm, and the waves were 2-2.5 feet. The wind was coming out of the north at 15-20 mph so I knew Anchor bay was going to be the only area I could really fish. I found some weeds in 10 FOW and started fishing around them with the new RAM crankbait I bought, and 2nd cast got a keeper largemouth. Then my 3rd cast I got a Musky that I watched attack my lure 10 feet from the boat which was awesome! ( although I was scared about loosing my $23 lure!) I caught another dozen fish on the crankbait, mostly largemouths which was kind of surprising to me. And then I got a 4.1 lb smallie!

After I had located the fish with the crankbait I ran back through and fished a tube, and caught over 50 fish, 5 fish were over 4 lb's, the biggest being 4.6. With another 6 fish betweeen 3.8 and 4...That was a first for me, and the majority of the other fish were in the 3 pound range.

I was using a 1/8 ounce jig head which perfectly stayed on top of the matted weeds that were on the bottom, I switched to a 3/16th and it kept getting caught down in the weeds, and then I wasn't getting fish so I switched back the 1/8th ounce and once again was catching fish. I also tried a double rig, using a drop shot hook above my tube, but the fish always bit the tube so I switched back to running just the tube.

I never did make it to the Channels since I was doing so well in the section I found that was holding all big fish. I was in 10-12 FOW all day. There wasn't anybody else out fishing.....All I have to say is that place is Unbelievable!

Ha, ha! Sometimes I love my job, other days I hate it...yesterday was one of the perks...

It was funny there was one pleasure boat that came out of no where and pulled right in front of where I was drifting and started fishing... there was no one else in sight for miles, I think Genie called it a "rod bender groupie" or something like that.... He must have seen me catching fish and decided to join me...after I gave him a few looks, he motored away...

That other boat was just good ole Ben Trodder. He's everywhere when you're fishing out in the open.

Sounds like a lack of too many preconceived notions and just going fishing with what the day gave you worked really, really good for you. Congratulations. Some people are struggling this year. And some people are really whacking them!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

that is the typical pattern on st. clair - look for the most bass boats, start fishing near them. If someone has a bent rod, go fish closer to that guy.

We've called that the "bent rod pattern" for many years.  Try it, it works!  LOL!!  I prefer my waypoint method, but hey sometimes you need to do what you need to do!

Sounds like you had a great day!

Brandenburg Park is probably it. Last year, lots of complaints about people getting stuck or doing damage getting in and out of there. I would rarely see many trailers there when I drove or fished nearby. I was reading some of the same complaints on another forum about this year but thinking 'if the water is up over 1 1/2 feet you can probably launch there again' ?? Sounds like that is the case.

Sorry yes Brandenburg park, and yes it was really shallow there, about 1.5-2ft, but for my boat it was fine. 16.5ft tracker with a 50 HP.

djkimmel

That helps to know. Might not be the place for big fiberglass bass boats just yet. I would imagine last year was really, really bad then. Thanks for the clarification and update. That will help other Internet anglers seeking recent, useful information.
