It was a slow day today with only a dozen smallies caught.  It was a mixed bag of smaller ones and several really nice ones including a solid 5 pound first fish of the day.  It started out with a big fish and I was expecting things to only get better but it was the opposite.  I don't know if it was the stiff South wind, but when the wind died down a bit, we started getting bit a lot more.  Maybe I should have had a second drift sock...dunno.  Started out South in GP Shores and got the biggun.  Failing to get another fish for a half hour, we started working North.  Finally things picked up around 12 Mile in 8 FOW.  Maybe if we had started there we'd have done better overall.  They didn't want anything moving today.  We had to fish SLOW and on the bottom to get them to bite.  I couldn't score a single fish on the dropshot and they didn't want deep cranks or lipless.  :/  Still it was a way nicer day than expected.  I'm glad the weatherman was wrong.  We had lots of sun and a great time was had.  Life is good.

Revtro: I was hoping for a better fishing report. I am going to St. Clair with two of my buddies on fri. I wanted to read you loaded the boat and it didn't matter what you used. Bummer. You mentioned you fished slow and it had to be on the bottom. Care to share what you were using? Was the water clear?
My plan is to start at the mile roads shallow and work my way out. Last yr at this time I used a white caffeine shad on a heavy hook ( no weight ) using 15 lb flouro on a baitcaster. The heavy hook with the flouro would let the bait sink slow. A few twitchs and bam they would hit it. If they just looked at it I would throw right back in with a drop shot tipped with a white Lake Fork minnow. Between these two baits we had a blast. That of course was last May and the water was gin clear. I was hoping to start with the same pattern but you now have me wondering.
Thanks,

I wouldn't give up on that plan.  I think yesterday was just an anomoly and I'm sure other guys rocked em.  Green Pumpkin with copper flake tubes on 8 and 6lb floro seemed to get the most consistant bites, but a couple of weeks prior when the bite was slow, a friend was throwing green pumpkin with chartreuse tails and was outfishing me 2 to 1 because the water was a bit murky.  I wonder if I had some of those yesterday if things might have picked up.  The water is clearing nicely but not gin clear along the mile roads.  It's much clearer down in GP Shores.  I'll be out tomorrow and will surely have a much better report for ya.  :)  Keep in mind I was fishing for quite a while in an area that wasn't producing.  If I had been around 12 Mile from the early morning, I feel we'd have gotten good numbers of keepers.  I spent quite a while looking deep for those big pre-spawners.  There are tons of fish tho moving up into the spawning flats, so your plan should make for a great day of fishing.  Don't let my crappy report dishearten ya.  One thing about me is if I have a crappy day I'll say so and I don't make up any stories.  I guess that can be a good and a bad thing.  LOL

Thank-you for the update. Looking forward to your next report. I will advise how we did upon my return. The north wind for fri appears to be my biggest issue.
