I finally got time to sit down and watch Kim Strickers Smallmouth Neighborhood Vol. 1 DVD last night.  WOW.  What a great video.  If anyone else is like me, and i know you all are, winter monthes are prime time to watch fishing videos and i can honestly say that this one is in the top 3 of all the ones i have seen.

I highly recommend it to anyone.  There is some unbelivable underwater footage, most of which was shotin st clair and the st clair river.  Very cool and very informative.  There is even underwater footage of a 6+ lb largemouth attacking a 2 lb smallie after the smallie is hooked.

I am hoping to pick this DVD up at the show this weekend and can't wait to watch it!

Years ago, I bought the VHS tapes of the 2 FLW tournies on St. Clair and have dang near wore them out.  It helps me get through this time of year, while the outdoor channels are still showing hunting shows and all I can think about is open water and bass fishing.

i'm sad to say mine came this past Friday, but my first chance to watch it will be tonight..looking forward to it!  Kim is pretty passionate about this DVD and should be very proud.  Can't wait for Volume 2 through ????

Just ordered mine after reading the reviews.  What do you guys think of the Classic Pattern series they have out?  I've seen a few segments on the Outdoor Channel and they were decent, I have been tempted on just buying the whole set but would like some reviews.  Are there any other videos out there worth spending money on?  Thanks in advance.

I got mine over the weekend, can't wait for the next one.  I have the classic patterns set, eveyone except the vandam one.  It's all right, but some of them seem to be just guys throwing lucky crafts until the fish bite.  I tried to order the flw videos last year but never got a hold of the guy, I should try again.

I recieved and watched my DVD the other night and must say I was a little bit let down by it. I guess I thought it would show more footage of bass actualy hitting baits, or feeding on the forage. To its credit it does offer alot of information on the main forages of smallmouth and it is for sure some excellent underwater footage. I am by no means dissatisfied with the DVD, It just was not what I was expecting.

Hey Bob,

I dont know if you have ever saw either of these, but they are the best 2 i have seen.

Largemouth Bass Forever and Bigmouth.

I think they are both by the same guy and i think his name is Bob Lau.

I bought a copy from BPS but it wouldnt play so i had to take it back and ended up getting a few Woo Daves dvds instead.  But i have seen them both and they are incredible.

Woo Daves videos at BPS are pretty cool as well.  KVDs are good too and i got a real cool Gerald Swindle spinnerbait video that is a little older and has Gerald sporting a sweet pornstar mustache.  He looks a little goofy but it covers all the basics and then some on spinnerbait fishing.

I own most of the videos from the Bass Pro Shops collection.  I dont have the Tommy Martin one or the Stacey King vidz but i have all the others and they are all pretty good.  Woos Smallmouth Strategies and KVDs Pitching to Heavy Hitters are the best out of the BPS collection in my opinion.

Whatever you do, in case you come across it on the net, stay away from a video called Bass Attacks.  Trust me, its horrible.

OK, i was close but not quite right on the last post.

His name is Glen Lau and the videos are called bigmouth forever and bigmouth.  He also has 3 others and you can purchase all 5 for $70ish.

Here is a link to his site.

http://www.glenlau.com/bassvideocollection.htm

The video bigmouth forever features Shaw Grigsby ( i think before he was a known pro ) and Homer Circle.  One of the clips that really sticks out in my mind is when Uncle Homer has a GIANT Largemouth break his rod in half while fighting it.  I think he estimated the fish to be over 20 lbs, but i dont really remember.

I have to agree a bit with Fishon here, I was disappointed a bit by the lack of shots of fish hitting the baits, or how they react to baits, chase them down, etc.  Also, while I'm listing the negatives, it felt a bit like I was watching an infomercial for Strick-9 jerkbaits.  One last thing, kind of funny, is the background music,  it reminds me of the dentists office, all serene and soothing.  My 5 year old walked through the room, and was like "what is that funny music?"

Now for the good stuff!  This video has some awesome shots!  The teaser trailer at the beginning is great, and the shot of the big largemouth hitting the smallie was really cool.  I was surprised to see that little smallie take the bait twice, must have been bedding there?  Also, I learned a ton about what the bottom looks like, and how gobies dart around.  The tips about how to fish the Strick-9 apply to other jerkbaits as well, and I learned that you have to LET THEM FALL!

Overall, it's an entertaining video to watch, and you will pick up some things.  The cool part is the Kim seems to be a pretty cool guy, and I'm sure he reads some of these posts, and will deliver the kind of stuff his customers are looking for.  I would tell anyone to buy this one, but hey Kim, next time can we get a few more shots of the bass hitting baits, and maybe forage fish and craws? ::)

One last thing, that KVD video from BPS, called Pitching to Heavy Hitters, is a MUST HAVE!  I learned to flip from this, and refined my technique a ton.  KVD is the man.

Gotta say I really liked the Smallmouth Neighborhood DVD.? Nothing else like it out there anywhere.? Kim has been wroking towards this for quite a while and he hit the jackpot with it!? His Strick-9 tubes have been a great seller and I'm sure the Strick-9 soft jerkbaits will be too, can't wait to try them out.? Good tips throughout and just an awesome vantage point.? I agree it would have been cool to see more strikes, but as you can imagine the timing for something like that is so unpredictable.? ?I would imagine gaining the type of footage he is after is totally unpredictable..just imagine how many hours he has into just this 55 minutes of film.? Anyway Kim is looking forward to everyones feedback on the film...stop by one of his seminars at the Ultimate Fishing Show and provide him with your opinions.? ?I believe this is just the beginning of Kim producing a full library of underwater excitement for all of our entertainment.

I received the KVD classic series DVD for Christmas entitled Clearwater Spinnerbaits.? His footage was taken near Traverse City.? KVD gives awesome instructions and how-to tips, its a great one for the collection.? He really breaks down his power fishing techniques.

We are lucky to have 2 of our sports finest being native to Michigan, and bringing us such an awesome variety of media to help us cope with these horrible months known as "THE OFF-SEASON"? ;D

Okay - I have been a Bass junky since I was about 10yrs old.  I got up early saturday mornings to catch Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker and Bill Dance and really didn't care about GI joe or anything else.  I read every fishing article I could get me hands on.  To say the least, I got burned out by the time I graduated HS.  Every article and TV show was just teaching the same "basics" over and over with no really helpful tips.  I really haven't paid much attention to learning material(books, videos) in years, but basically watch for tournament results and study the winning techniques.  Now, you guys are talking about all these great new videos out and learning a lot from them.  I guess I am going to be adding to my video collection!!!  Oh well, I guess I will have to get something useful to watch while ESPN2 "Bass Saturday" is on ;D!!!

I have the entire Classic Patterns DVD set. I think they are great for anybodies collection, if you can spend the $150 for the entire set. Just to let anybody who doesn't know... yeah there's 13 DVD's for a hundred and fifty Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers.
But each DVD has a minimum of 2 episodes on it, some have 3 episodes or a bonus video. So, there's almost 40 show's and features, once I found that out, I was extremely glad I bought them.

I watch them all the time, especially the night before a tournament to get me charged up for the next day.

Thanks to all the input gentlemen.

I finally got the video in the mail today.  Popped it in and sat back with a big fatty in the lower lip.  Great stuff.  I'll probably watch it again tonight.  I thought the loon footage was cool too!

I think I wil take some of my x-mas money and buy some of these videos and books.  Looks like im gonna be spending around 300 bones at least.  I'm prolly gonna have to get the classic pattern set now too.  This should help get me through till the last sat in april.  thanks to all.

he had a loon diving under water and chasing his soft jerkbait on the retrieve...it did this quite a few times..  so whats your loon story Dan?  I was fishing with a guy in my club up on Lake Charlevoix, he cast out his jighead tube and a seagull made a swipe for it in air but instead in caught the gull in the back somewhere...the seagull landed on a dock piling with hook attached!  my buddy gave it a little twitch, the bird started to take off and he gave it a tug...that dislodged the hook and a bunch of feathers!  that gull was mad circled and swooped on us 4 or 5 times, before he decided to wander off....

SEA GULL ;D ;D ;D
Two years ago I fished the BFL's as a non-boater and was trying to get a quick cast along a dock with a spit'n image.  Well the boater kicked the TM on high to jump to the next dock and I lost sight of the bait as I was reeling it in around the last dock post.  The next thing I know, a sea gull grabbed the bait and flew off, getting snagged in the process.  I tried snapping the rod tip to pull the hooks but it didn't work.  I ended up reeling the bird in and got my pliers on the hooks.  I was shaking the hooks and lifting the bird to pop the barbs free as this huge bird proceeded to beat the crap out of me with his wings.  Luckily, when the hooks finally came out the bird had enough the took off.  I'm not sure how, but the boater continued on like nothing was happening.  Never even said a word about it.  Probably because I was catching 5 fish to his one prior to this.  He ended up with more than me in the end but he was frustrated early that I was catching fish behind him.

Speaking of videos, anybody seen Ike's new video yet?  I was thinking about picking it up, his book was pretty good.....

I haven't seen hardly any videos in quite a while, especially not #$% @%#%@#$ @%@### @$%$$#%$ Ike's :D

I have several bird stories, but the loon story was up at Clam Lake last time I fished federation. I somehow missed seeing a nest at the back end and got to close. The loon pulled the old 'follow the wounded easy-target bird trick' at first, by flopping around and holding a wing out like it was damaged, all while 'leading' us away from the nest.

I guess we didn't follow instructions well enough, because the loon suddenly turned on us and charged the side of the boat like a wounded cape buffalo - I mean it was one impressive display of a mother's anger. It did this several times as I put the trolling motor on high to move away. That @#$@%$$ (for Ike) loon chased us half way down the lake.

Oh, c'omn.  You gotta like Ike.   :D  Just ignore all the yelling, and he's a pretty cool dude.  He is actual a pretty technical fisherman, very methodical about how he breaks down an area to fish.  I learned more form his book than I did KVD's.

NEVER GIVE UP!!!!
Okay, okay, some of his stuff is corny, but it gets him attention and makes him a fan favorite.  He is one of the few fishermen my wife can recognize, and that's saying an awful lot.

I think a lot of southern good 'ol boys just don't like getting schooled by a screaming tatooed northern kid.  (I wouldn't!) ;D

My wife liked Bryan Kerchal. She said he was a very nice young man, and he never got beeped...

I haven't seen or read any of Ike's stuff. I'll be interested to read his day on the lake in the next issue of Bassmaster magazine.

The one show I watched he was kind of corny at times, had to be beeped several times (some of it not necessary) and was technical and helpful at times. He also ran his boat over Larry Nixon's spot and Nixon didn't seem none to happy... Ike was nowhere near as annoying as that Charlie Moore guy.
