This year I really need to start jigging more. In years past I have done very little with jigs and I need to tie them on more often. I feel that I will use them more often in deeper water and was wondering whats the best rod to use??

FISH HARD!!!

Grandt C10 is an awesome light and sensitive casting rod. It is rated as MH. I mostly use it for bigger spinnerbaits across the Great Lakes and larger flats but it is a good jig rod too. I also have a M C09 casting rod that is very good for creature baits, worms and jigs on weed edges and openings. Not a pitching rod but great for casting in everything except the really heavy stuff. Then I would use the C10.

Both rods are on the same page. Just search for C10 or C09. I recommend them both.

St. croix mojo casting 7'6 mh. Perfect rod to launch 1/2oz + jigs deep. I also flip docks with it. I' ve used it f or 3 years without any problems. Once you go st. croix you never go back

+1 on the St. Croix.  My ultimate favorite combo is a 70MHF Legend Tournament Bass stick paired with a Shimao Curado 200E7 and 14# P-line.  It is the most sensitive, balanced combo I have ever fished.

bassbmx

I would use a 7' or 7'6" MH baitcasting rod.  Personally I use Powells.

HellaBass

Dobyns as many other make some great sticks, 7 - 7'4" Medium Heavy to Heavy fast action rods.

Dobyns Champion 734 or 735
Dobyns Champion Extreme 704, 705, 744, 745

I would agree that a 7 footer in the MH range is about right.  As a big fan of Kistler Rods, I would suggest a 7' MH Kistler.  Any series will do, depending on your price range.

fiker

+2 on the St. Croix.  The Avid, and the Legend lines carry a lifetime warranty.  The Mojo is a limited number of years.

My Avids cost about $170 -190.  They are very light, balanced, and sensitive. I've been picking up 1 or 2 a year for a while now.

When I researched which rods I would start to acquire I found that the warranty was a big deal to me when paying so much for a rod.  At that time the Loomis and St. Croix had the best warranties. At that time i wasn't aware of Grandt rods (site sponsor) who also have a good warranty.  Some of the other rods mentioned above don't carry as good as warranties but still cost in the same ball park.
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

B & R Outlaw they make 7' & 7' 6" rod in MH which is what I use for Jig fishing.  they sell for less than $150 with lifetime no questions asked warranty and have the feel of equal to any other rod

fiker, thanks for pointing out that longtime website sponsor Grandt Rods also has a lifetime warranty. And, they are made in the US! All my new rods the past few seasons have been Grandt Rods. They make a high quality fishing rod!

Grandt Rods has returned for another year of support of this forum that you all get to hang out on. They have also provided another new, awesome C10 All American casting rod that I will awarding to the 2012 fishing reports champion!

Grandt Rods has ALSO again provided an awesome ultra high end, super light and strong Stealth high modulus spinning rod in memory of David MadWags Wagensomer to be given away at our spring 2012 MadWags Memorial Members tournament on Lake St. Clair! MadWags was instrumental in helping master rod make Jim Grandt develop this state of the art fishing rod series!

I looked at the Stealth High Modulus.   Is that price per dozen rods.  Out of my range.

Going to have to take one of you Grandt guys out fishing some time so I can try one.  I know of a lake where jig fishing will be on fire in about a month.  Any Grandt guys want to go fishing.  I will bring the boat, snacks and drinks.  Maybe even take Fiker along with his St. Croix.  I will bring my Powels.

djkimmel

The All American Series are mostly what I own and they are priced very well. At the Grand Rapids show you could have saved as much as $60 putting some of them under $100. These are as nice as any $200 rod I've ever owned and pretty much all of the All American rods are normally priced between $150 and $170. If you watch, he does make offers for members here that save on that.

Maybe you can win your own Stealth rod at the 2012 MadWags tournament?!?

I'm with you JC
I Picked up 2 Helium 7' MH rods last fall for 130 apiece
they replace the Mag 6'-10's that have been great.

There hook keeper may seem like a small detail but it the best out there.

I am sure that all rods listed above are good rods. Have you thought of custom? The High modulus MHX (40 ton graphite) Mudwhole brand blanks are extremely light and around $100 per blank. I have a 7'3" M/H fast regular MHX that has become my go to rod for jigs and some soft plastics. The regular are intermediate modulus much like or compared to G. Loomis IMX and around $60. Off the rack rods I would say that the Pheonix Recons may not be a bad choice. They have a 7'4" M/H fast around $170 with great styling and lots of carbon weave looks to them. Just some more options.
