Earthquakes VS fishing

     Okay as most know Galesburg got a earthquake yesterday afternoon not bad but a shaker any ways. We had launched our boats right about that time and was out on the water so barely felt it. The funny thing being so close to the center of it the fishing was real bad for everyone I talked to, even the locals. Now talked to other that fished during that time but on lakes farther away from the center of the quake.
     Have any of you ever had it happen to you and your fishing went down the tubes from it or is it my reason for not catching any fish yesterday?

I live in Muskegon. I was fishing on Lake St Clair yesterday when it happened. My wife called me and told me we had an earthquake. I laughed at her like she was dumb. Then, emergency sirens started going off all around LSC. The fishing died right around that time. Crazy. I just saw a map showing all of the cities in Michigan who reported feeling the quake. The areas where the sirens were coming from are all included.

Now you have me wondering...?? We were on our annual Hardy Dam Pond trip. Had no idea there was an earthquake but the fishing slowed early in the day and died the last few hours...?? Wonder if the earthquake-prone area citizens have any input on this?

I fished white and everything i caught was small amd tons of dead bluegill and talked to dude who lives on the lake said he aint seen a kill like this in 20... not good hope hes wrong

I was on St Clair yesterday , the fishing was  poor. As far as the sirens. They go off at 1 o'clock  the first Saturday  of every month . I checked  my watch  it was 1 o'clock .

I felt the quake here around 12:30 when they say it happened. Felt and heard a boom like something hit the house and my chair moved a bit and you could here the house shifting.  It was pretty weird.  The Sirens went off here but it was just the monthly test they do on the first Saturday of the month at 1pm.  No i idea if it has an effect on fishing but I wouldn't doubt if it did.  Did you guys notices any change in clarity of the water?  I imagine it would stir up the bottom a bit.

If it was 1pm. If is was 12:30 whatever when sirens went off then it wouldn't have been the test. My wife says we got a notice at our house from MSU about the 'emergency alert' concerning an earthquake. I was at Hardy Dam Pond and clueless about the tipped over lawn chairs, shaking picture frames and wobbling toilets around SW and mid-Michigan.

You all talk of the sirens, being only seven or eight miles from its center we never heard one go off till one but felt it at around 12:30. As for the bottom it was more cloudy then normal but I put it down to the low weed growth in that lake this early in the year.

It seems like a coincidence that the earthquake happened near the regular monthly testing time of emergency sirens. I've always wondered what happens if there is a real emergency on the 1st Saturday of a month at 1pm. This was a test...

Around here they test the civil defense sirens at NOON on the first Saturday of the month... never heard them at any other time.  There is one right across the street from my store so trust me, we HEAR it when they test it.
