Hi All,

Is fogging my outboard something that I can do on my own or is this something I need to have a pro do? I have a 150HP Yamaha Vmax and I'm hoping to do all the winterization myself.

Can anyone post some well detailed steps on how to do this or maybe a link to somewhere that can show me?

Thanks!!!!

Hey I know where to put air in the tires and where that thing goes in when you are out of gas and that is the extent of my mechanical abilities. I have a friend who I have asked much the same question and he says that you if you have a carbeurated system then just spray the fogging oil in the carberator until the engine chokes out (I start my 35 pull the gas line off and then liberally spray fogging oil in the carbeurator until it chokes out). Then pull each plug and liberally spray in fogging oil into each cylinder. Put the plugs back in very loose (this helps dissapte the added compression caused by all the fogging oil when you hit the key a couple times) and turn it over a few cranks. Newer engines, mines a 98 225 Johnson Venom, I believe require a different approach. Remember I am mechanically impaired, but I have done my 35 horse Merc on the pontoon boat this same way for years, but have never wanted to trust myself with the big motor. I have had it done for $75. However, this year I'm going to drain and fill the lower unit and fog the engine myself. Need to save some cash. I have already been running Stabil in the gas for one eight hour day on the water so I know that the lines are full of stabilized gas. Going to fill the tanks up to lessen the chance of condensation over the winter, and pull the batteries, graphs and tackle, rain gear and anything else the mice might want to chew on. I also put decon in every nook and cranny of my cabin garage and put dryer softner sheets in the boat compartments. Then, .... I? worry all winter about it. Again my 2 cents worth.

Here's one of many articles you can google. I'll have to ask my buddy why this guy doesn't spray oil in each spark plug hole.

Here is another interestng article if you use gas containing ethanol.

Has anybody else head not to spray fogging oil in the bigger engines to stall them out. I always just spray into the sparkplug holes. I know its ok on smaller engines but somewhere i heard not to do it on bigger engines.

Mr big bucks from green and duck has to save money. (just joking dan)

Dan

Never got to spend a dime of that money. Got home and the kids car had to have an engine over haul costing $1000.

Sorry to hear that.

That is a fast dent in the checkbook.
