Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Started off in the middle of the lake with smallies feeding on minnows.  Had about 100 sea gulls feading on them also.  You would see a fish hit a school of minnows and toss to it and hook up.  Lots of 14-15 inchers.  Had a small limit in 30 minutes.  The breeze came up and I started throwing a spinnerbait.  Not sure I have ever caught that many fish on a spinnerbait.  If you want to have fun head out soon.  Look for the gulls and you will find bait and fish.

I did hear they are moving the launch a the state park and it may be closed all of next year.  That will be interesting.

dartag, where are they going to move the launch too.  The only problem I have ever had on Cass with the launch is the parking of vehicles and trailers.  Not the greatest system and layout that's for sure.

Sounded like the ramps would be moved south towards the lake in the flat area behind the little stinky bathroom..  The current parking area would be wider.  Not sure if they are adding any spaces.  Guess anything they do will be better.  It is really tight parking there.

Cass has not been fishing that good the last few years but it will put more pressure on other lakes in the area since almost all NBAA divisions fish cass once or twice a summer.  Now they will have to use the other lakes.

Be interesting to see if they do the work on time.  The state bought the land south of me on union lake road to move the launch 4 years ago.  They still have not started any work yet.     They are rebuilding Orchard lake ramp now.

Skulley

I'm going to miss Orchard this fall. Usually a real good fall lake. My wife's cousin lives on the lake. Maybe I can still get on there through the association launch. But there are so many good fall venues to fish.
