Plastic jigs and trailers

   I could use some suggestions.  I bought a few jigs this past spring at the Ultimate show in Grand Rapids.  Some from Nemesis and some from Custom Kicker.  I have to be honest, I haven't used them much.  I want to here soon and need some suggestions on what you guys like to put on the Freak jig heads and as trailers on rubber skirted jigs like the Dock Monkey or Upskirt jigs.  Also does the time of year change what you use or the size???  Thanks in advance for the help.  If you prefer to keep your resonse more private, please message me.

Jeff... while I don't throw jigs as much as some... I throw them more than most think I do.  I like Net Baits Paca craws... they come in several sizes.  I also like the Strike King Rage products.

Just about any craw, back half of a creature, twin tail grub or chunk will work, personal preference and confidence

I fished jigs more this year than any previous year. My absolute favorite trailer is the Revolution Baits Kick'r Craw. They are 3.75" long, and the plastic seems to be pretty durable. I have caught a lot of fish on them this year. My two favorite colors are Getch's Craw, and Kentucky Creek Orange.

On the Freak I use either a beaver style bait or a Berkley Devil Spear.  Both will glide well and Devil Spear has a some extra action in the tail due to the segmentation.

On the Dock Monkey, Red Zone (football head) or an Up Skirt I pour my own craws that look a lot like the Revolution craw Mike mentioned.  I will also use a beaver style bait or a Zoom Super Chunk or similar bait.  The NetBait Paca Chunk is a good trailer too.  I normally match my jig and trailer but some guys like to contrast the jig and skirt color.  It comes down to testing and confidence.

Time of year doesn't normally change my jig size but depth and wind will.  I normally throw a 3/8 but will move to a 1/2 with a lot of wind or deeper than 20 fow.  Footballs I normally throw a 1/2 or 3/4.

Jigs are awesome Jeff...once you start catching fish on them you won't be able to get away from it.

once summer is hear I use  a jiggerbug which is made by Martini Hand pours and is very similar to a flappin hog

Chigger Craws of Strike King Denny Brauer Chunks.

Just packed my stuff for 3 days at Canadian Lakes.  2 Jig rods a big box of Jigs and lots of trailers.  Once you get the hang of jig fishing you will be hooked.   Feel the thump, set the hook.  pretty simple.

any jig the Revolution bait's kick'r craw is perfect.  lots of action with the claws, built in crawfish scent, and colors that you can get no where else (no need for dye, claws different colors from body).

I love throwing a jig.  I'm with Cy...typically 3/8 or 1/2 oz jigs unless I'm in 20+ feet or windy, then I'll go up to 3/4 oz.  Typically I use a 3" Berkley chigger craw or Netbait Paca Chunk.  For a bulky bait or a lot of action, I like creature baits, or 4" Berkley Chigger Craws, or if I want more action I'll use a twin-tail grub.  For a smaller profile or more subtle action, a beaver-style bait.

Hint...if you save some old plastic worm or creature bodies and slide them on to the hook before adding your new trailer it will allow you to slow your rate of fall without altering the size of your jig

Chigger Craw!!!...I use 5/16 and qtrs.I use qtrs.up to 20 as long as it is not windy...I love throwing them and of course they work!!...I tend to throw smaller ones early and as the year progresses start to get bigger..I'm not sure what to do without them.

It is jig time.  We caught 27 bass yesterday with our best 5 weighing close to 20 lbs.  Not bad from a pontoon boat in high winds. All on 1/2 oz jig with green pumpkin chigger craw

I use the Kick'r Craws mainly as trailers.  On a couple of occasions I have rigged one up on darter jig and caught some really nice fish. I have also thought about Texas rigging one, but have had way too much fun with them on jigs. Some of the other trailers I use, like the Mizmo craws, I only use on a jig.

I tend to throw a Paca Chunk with super chunks and twin tails mixed in depending on the bite and the way I am fishing during the summer. But spring and fall or anytime the water is cold I switch to a zoom super chunk jr or sr on the back of my upskirt jig. I seem to get more bites with less action when the water is cold.

You want to learn to fish a jig here is what you do.  Just got back from 3 days on Canadian lakes.  All I took were 2 jig rods with 30 lb braid and a 17 lb floro leader.  Fished a 1/2 oz jig for all 3 days.  For trailers I used Chigger Craw, Paca Chunk and Stirke King Denny Brauer chunk.  All in Green Pumpkin and none seemed better than the other.  I caught over 40 bass with at least 3  5lbs or better.  Wish i had taken my scale.  Caught a lot or 2-4 pounders. The bass were shallow feeding on blue gills.   Fish a jig for 3 days and you will figure it out and be hooked.
