I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

It has been a long, grueling two weeks, but it is now over. Just went and picked my truck up from the transmission shop. A bad diagnosis by one shop leads me to another, which ended up in a complete rebuild of my transmission. I stopped in there Monday, by surprise, and they had my trans torn apart on the bench. What a mess. It ended up being a common problem with the GM transmissions, a snap ring that breaks, and wipes out a bunch of gears and other internal parts.

The truck will have a whole 2 miles on it before I tow the boat. Boy, it shifts so nice. Just like a new truck, only way cheaper.

Glad to hear it! I like good news! I think I have said that before?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I'm heading toward a new tranny with my Chevy truck. 189,000 and it's clunking hard especially when I take off pulling the boat.
"Not in the clamor of the crowded streets nor in the shouts and plaudits of the throng, but within oneself lies victory or defeat."

Yep, just what mine was doing. Bad clunk, especially when towing. I only have 160,000 on mine.

Unfortunately, my excitement is short lived. I took the wife and kids to Wolf Lake to swim this evening. No boat. On my way to the lake, the service 4x4 light pops on, and the indicator light for the push button 4 wheel drive is out. We get home, and I check the fuse for the 4x4, its good. Time to go underneath.

First thing I notice is the rubber boot that goes on the yoke for the front drive shaft is laying on the skid plate under the transfer case. I know that's not right, I watched the mechanic replace the metal clip on it last year when I had him do the u joints on the front shaft. I then notice that the boot is ripped in half, and that they tried to hold it on with a zip tie. Then, drip. What the f?  No way!  Sure enough, it is leaking fluid. It has 16 miles on it now. Ok, so I am really unhappy now. Upon further inspection, I find the 4x4 issue. They broke the locking part of the connector, so it won't stay plugged in. I push it in, and the warning lights went out. So, needless to say, it is going back to the shop tomorrow with one really p'd off owner. There is no excuse for that. I can understand a mistake, but all that?  I'm not even the professional trans guy. I really hope they didn't spray can rebuild a junk yard trans and stick it in my truck.

djkimmel

Very sorry to hear the yoke is on you... I hope it all gets sorted out tomorrow! Pronto!

I don't suppose you might want to name the shop so I know where not to go. :-\'

Mike S.

No, I don't really want to name them. They are an awesome shop, one of the best around. I imagine their new guy will be looking for new employment after yesterday. The owner was not happy. They are handling it right away, and they gave me no grief. I have used them before, and have had zero complaints.  It's just one of those things, I guess.

And Jeff, you know that's the truth!  Man, my luck has got to change.

That's cool. I've had to fire my share of clowns. I hope everything works out, then you can recommend the shop to others, or me if I need their services. Good repair shops are hard to find.

I have the truck back. Everything is satisfactory, and they were very apologetic.

This shop stays pretty low key. They don't advertise, they don't have signs on their property, they're not in the phone book, and work strictly by word of mouth. I drove by there for years before I ever knew what it was. They are always packed.
