See the table of additives and ingredients at: Is your gas additive safe with E10 fuel?

Waterfoul

Looks like the ones I use and recommend are ok according to this chart.  ValvTect, Stabil Marine, and Quickleen.

How do we know if we are getting E-10 in our regular unleaded fuel?

I'm not sure there's a pump in Michigan that isn't E10.  A few marina pumps yes, but not at the gas stations.  I believe that nearly all the 87 octane gas is E10 while most premium is ethanol free.  But, running premium gas in a motor not designed for it can actually cause harm to the motor.

Most premium is E10 as well. I have a couple stations in NW MI close to lake mi ports that offer some non ethanol fuel. You pay more for it though as there isnt much out there.

Great website...Thanks...

Dan, can we pin this over on the "Boat room"....

djkimmel

Might be able to do that? Up to huston too since it is his post.

How do you know if your motor is not designed for premium? Better question should I not run Premium through my engine mike? That's all I have ever put in.

djkimmel

You shouldn't if your outboard motor handbook doesn't specifically say you should. Most motors say to run 87 to 89 octane, the exception using only being the 'racing' motors.

I think he means the main Boats and Motors board below.

My motor calls for mid grade.  I will pay a little more attention to how much ethanol is in that next time I go to the pump.

My understanding is they no longer have to put a sign up about ethanol in the gas. My guess is you would have to find someone at each station who knows and would tell you?
