Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Just before the October Natural Resources Committee meeting on Thursday, October 9, Commissioner John Walters added an amendment to Fisheries Order 206 – “Bass - Closed bass CIR season from May 1 – Friday before the third Saturday in June for Burt, Mullet, Crooked, Pickerel, and Black Lakes and their connecting waters.”

Burt/Mullett: Cheboygan River Lock Schedule/Fees

If you are thinking about making the run from Mullett Lake out into Lake Huron/Duncan Bay or across to the Les Cheneaux Islands, you will have to go through a small boat lock on the Cheboygan River in Cheboygan. Here are the details if you want to confirm operations - there may be a delay in the morning before you can get through:

2006 Cheboygan River Lock schedule
The locks can handle a boat 60 feet long with a 17 foot beam. Operation schedule of the Cheboygan River Lock during the 2006 boating season will be as follows: :

Prior to May 1 call the Cheboygan Recreation Unit (231) 627-9011 to make an appointment.

May 1-25
8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and/or
3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Saturday & Sunday)

Memorial Day Weekend
May 26, 27, 28 and 29
9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

May 30 - June 14
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

$30.00 Seasonal Pass
