Jig question

Hi everyone.

I have a question for those of you who make your own jigs for personal use or for sale to others.

I have a bunch of jig heads without the skirt, some of them never used.  They are mostly Mann's Stone jigs.  I was wondering if it is possible to "refresh" them? Repaint and tie on new skirts. The weed guards don't need to replaced. One custom jig maker told me it isn't possible/feasible because stripping the paint and repainting to a satisfactory level could ruin the jig head and/or the weed guard.

What does everyone think of this scenario?

Thanks.

McCarter

i wouldnt waste the time trying to repaint them.  unless you wanted to spray paint them and then put a coat of epoxy or clear nail polish over them.

i guess you could sand blast the old paint if you had the means, or maybe there is a chemical that you could soak them in that will eat powder paint off.  i dont know.  but you would be putting more work into it than its worth, imo.

just put some new skirts on them.  paint on the head makes no difference, really.  my best jig has very little paint left on it.  the original PIG DESTROYER.  still catches lots and lots of fish.

drop one in a small container with Simple Green and see what happens, it may take a few days but i'm thinking you got nothing to lose.

Thanks guys.  I thought it might not be worth it. And definitely agree about beat up jigs producing. Great call on that.

The thing is, I bought a bunch of Mike's special and I never used them and I think it is UGLY. Couldn't even stand to look at a normal skirt color on this head.  No idea why I bought them. Ha.

I figure out something to do with them.

you can refresh them.   I just got done cleaning some swim jigs I used last year.  I superglue a chigger craw on them.  It makes them look nasty.   I scrape it off and use a scotchbrite pad to clean the head.    going to tie on some new skirts I just got today from Fishingskirts.  Thanks for the tip MC.   Then I can stare at them for 4 months.
