Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Winter Fishing and Hunting Seminars at D & R Sports Center

Our winter weeknight seminars are scheduled for the month of January. All seminars are FREE and cover a variety of hunting and fishing topics. Seminars run from 6:30 - 7:30 pm and will be held in the Service Department located behind the store. February seminar schedule coming soon.

Wednesday, January 5 – Ice Fishing Local Lakes with Shaun Olinger
Tournament Ice Pro Shaun Olinger shares his secrets and techniques for catching more panfish. Highlights include use of electronics, special line, rods and reels, ice flies, tungsten lures and more. A great seminar for beginner or seasoned ice anglers.

Thursday, January 6 – Fishing Heavy Cover For Bass with Jonathon VanDam
If you want to catch more and bigger bass, you have to go where they live. BASS Elite Pro Jonathon VanDam discusses techniques for pulling bass from all types of heavy cover conditions. Flipping, pitching, punching and frogging are all covered in this must-see seminar.

Friday, January 7 – Archery for Beginners with Shaun Olinger
D&R's Archery Manager, Shaun Olinger will discuss the basics of archery. Equipment and technique for the beginner will be the focus of this seminar. This seminar is open to kids and adults.
