This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

Went out yesterday and was going to launch at Ballard.  This is the launch on Jefferson, North of Shook on St. Clair.  The launch was closed and the ramps were out on the land.  Not sure what is going on there.  I fully expected it to be open by now.  So if you plan on launching on St. Clair, you better head to Harley Ensign or Metro Beach.  I'll post if I see that the Ballard ramps become open.  May 6, 2006.

Hi Guys & Gals,

As of today, May 6th, the Clinton River Cutoff (aka Spillway) ramp at Ballard & Jefferson is OPEN. 2 out of 3 docks in the water and boats are launching.

I imagine those East winds we had pushed a lot of that black mucky silt up into the ramp. They must have been dredging again... although no one has mentioned seeing the dredge?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Woo Hoo!  They must have went to work on those docks that same day I drove by.  Great news.
