This is a tale of two lakes. Intertwined lakes, in Barry County, Michigan. Where somehow the water has gone away. Upper and Lower Crooked Lakes, both near and dear to me, are suffering from the lowest water levels I've seen in the 35+ years I've been fishing them.

I was thinking about heading over to Erie on Friday and checking out the hot ponds.  I have never been into the hot ponds, and I hear it is tricky.  I was going to put in at Bolles, can anyone give me good directions from there?  I want to set a GPS trail to make it easier, if anyone has some way points off of a safe route in I would really appriciate it.

If I don't go over to Erie, I was thinking about Lobdell.  I have not been there in a long time, I used to love that place.

Time to go whack some "sheephead".

That area is big sand flat so it is always moving. There isn't one perfect path in there put the motor up and take your time the best thing I can say to you.

I have been in a hundred times. Spring, summer and fall and I stay trimmed up as high as allows and run in on plane... I have never had an issue..

I don't think it is luck..... It is about 3 ft deep usually and sandy.... I actually rub sand and gravel when I "creep" in due to the boat sitting lower off plane.....

The water is up a lil now anyhow...

Have fun

CATCHEM - are you just one of those always lucky guys? I heard several other guys talk about boat damage running in there. Seems like if it is 3 feet all the way, an idle in trimmed up would be safer the first time or two.

Not disbelieving your advice, just knowing my luck. I would want to see the way in on a day with clear water to see what is there to possibly hit or not. I realize clear water over there may be a rarity due to so much wind action.

Guess I'm just chicken (a little shy at least being a two-time loser already...)

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
