I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

I fished the St Clair Channel's today and around 10:30 lost my trolling motor, It was working fine then all of a sudden the prop stopped spinning and that was my day (A few fish and had to call it a day) Is there a switch inside the housing that could have burnt out, that is what I was told. Any info would be helpful I want to fish this week for practice for the BFL's and have no trolling motor need it fixed asap.

I don't know anything about TMs but if it is a MK there is a guy in the Port Huron area that supposedly has quick turnaround...
His number is...810-794-5951...I know a couple of tourney guys that have gotten great service from him...If you don't want to take it in he may be able to steer you in the right direction

What model do you have? A lot of times I hear of the control boards going bad which are around the $300 mark. Mine died a couple weeks ago and I found a bunch of line wrapped around the shaft. Upon further inspection (taking it apart) I found the brushes were stuck since the housing melted:

$10 later I was back up and running. I did not get a seal kit, but if I was doing it again I would replace those too. You can find detailed schematics here: http://www.northlandmarine.com/MinnKotaQuickRef.htm#anchor_PARTS_DIAGRAMS

This may be the stupid question of the day, but do you have shortstops on your TM batteries. If so, did you reset both of them?

Let me add to the list my expertise! ::)

My Motor Guide stopped during a day on LSC, ran across from the South Channel to the Ford Mansion in 3'-4' square waves, got to the flat to rest and fish a little and had nothing to move with.  My first reaction was "Oh h*ll no, I'm not writing a $600 plus check for a new tm!"

Long story short next day I took the cover off the head and the negative wire connector screw had rattled loose and fallen off.  Reattached that and had to also tighten my positive connection because that was loose, did the ground, put the cover back on, and was good to go.

My trolling motor just bit the dust today.  I got a short in the wiring under the front deck.  Unfortunately, mine went up in smoke, right on the deck of my boat.  Foot controller was burning.  I took tomorrow off just because I was having withdrawals from fishing, so I had to scrounge up 600 bucks in less than an hour to get one from the local Lund dealer.  Works awesome.  Anyways, might want to check your wiring.  Good luck.

Thats crazy...Mine did the same thing this year it got really hot melted wires inside of the plug up in the front panel. So I have a new one now and i direct wired it!!!!!

is any of this information still correct? i would like to try to get the head of the TM rebuilt if possible and no there is no warranty

"but if it is a MK there is a guy in the Port Huron area that supposedly has quick turnaround...

and if KD repairs them as well regardless of warranty?
