I leave work early to get downriver and get something to eat before the meeting. I get paired with Frank Novock in boat 44. Frank is very excited about our prospects. He was not going to fish this event unless he found something worthwhile. Which he did very late on his last practice day. When he caught three fish over 5lbs.

Frank has a Ranger walleye style boat so it takes us close to an hour to navigate the Detroit river and out into his area on St. Clair. We start our first drift and after about 15 min Frank hooks up. When we get a look at the fish we see it is in the 4lb class so things are looking good. We get it in the net and in the livewell.

We continue to make drifts and adjust our paths. The fishing is slow but every 20 min or so we get one. After fishing for an hour we have four in the boat. Not a bad start, if we do this all day we should both cull up to good limits.

I have been catching my fish on a dropshot and have rotated through several of my favorites to see if they like something better than the others. After a long dryspell I go back to my favorite Jackall bait. I finally catch my 4th and 30 min later my limit fish.

I hook another fish but can tell right away its a big Sheephead. Frank hooks up with his 3rd fish and I net it as I am fighting the Drum. The time is 11 o clock. The wind has gradually picked up and it is blowing really good now.

Unbelievable to us neither of us gets another bite all day. We head in at 2 to make it back in time. Frank is disgusted with how the day went. My five weigh 14.3   I have some friends show up to the weigh in so I go with them to have a nice dinner at Primonti Bros.

I am very suprised when they text me the results that I ended up in 11th place and cashed a check. Normally it takes 15 to 16 lbs. Frank was a great guy to fish with. Right from the start he told me anything in his boat was mine to use. I felt bad ,he was so excited about the day and we were foiled again by the here today gone tomorrow smallies.

Nice write up I also had Frank as a boater. good guy... He was in a Triton back then...

I am glad he had that walleye rig because it was a rough ride going back. Especially the miracle mile.

I don't miss that run at all! Glad you cashed another check!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
