We decided to go up to Grayling and try learning lake margrethe. We heard many good things about the smalle fishing but this lake beat us up all day long. We only boated about 5 small largies, one pike and lost 2 smaller smallmouth at the boat. Weeds and good structure are all over that lake but all the vegetation was half green and half brown....everything seemed like it was dying off in this lake. We fished depths up to 25ft and even pulled some small ones from 19ft down. I guess if I was to fish this lake today I would try the 25-40ft range. I know fishing a lake for the first time is tough but we were not impressed by this lake, or our skills locating smallies

Grinny

I fished this lake 4-5 years ago in June, and did decent closer to shore fishing swimbaits. Caught a couple nice size largemouths and about a dozen 2-3 pound smallies. It was super windy the day I was there, and that lake can get some big waves out in the middle..

I also did pretty good along the weedlines fishing a crankbait for pike.
