The first fishing trip after Heart surgery was short but productive.  My buddy and I headed to Portage lake this evening for an after-work evening trip.  I had to find a cure for the cabin fever that I have had since surgery in June.

We launched into Big Portage at the DNR launch at around 6:30 pm.  A quick run up to the north end of the lake, and we explored the flats adjacent to the weedline.  An overzealous 6 inch large mouth fell prey to my buddies Lunch Money tube. However for the next forty minutes, the only thing that we could muster was a top water swing and a miss.  Spinnerbait...nothing; buzzbait...nothing.  Texas rigged plastic..zippo.

That was enough unproductivity for me, so I stow the Minn Kota and its off to the north end.  As it is cool and cloudy, I begin my search on the inside of the weedline adjacent to some long docks.  First pitch with my Lunch Money tube produces a fat 16 incher.  I continue along the inside weedline to no avail.  My next attempt is along the outside weedline adjacent to a long irregular gravel point...when another chunky largemouth about the same size hits my shakey head finesse worm on the fall in 13 fow.  The next cast is bit off by a toothy critter that I never got a look at.  My buddy gets a few strikes on a tube on top of the point, but no fish in the boat.

It was now approaching 9 o'clock and my buddy announces that he has to work early, so we load the Legend back on the trailer and call it a night.
