Fishing Report

Grand River still very fast and hazardous!

Muskegon, Grand River/Spring Lake, Muskegon/Grand Haven MI, 6/9-10/01 – Fished Muskegon on Saturday the 9th. Again, I’m surprised at how sparse the weeds are. Very few thick spots in Muskegon and almost no weeds in Bear. Lots of empty beds all over, but a few key areas still hold some bedding fish in Muskegon. Bear was too muddy to see anything much deeper than a few inches.

Caught a few bass shallow that were in various spawning stages. I passed up on most bedding bass I found since there wasn’t a bunch and they probably won’t be there in two weeks. After seeing how Muskegon is fishing right now, I’ve written it off for this one.

Additional fish had come up on beds (and still were) from the most recent full moon on the Grand. I don’t expect many to be left by tournament-time on the 23rd so I didn’t beat them up too much. I caught a couple dinks on a crankbait from a current break. I didn’t fish the river much though. It was heavy current with muddy, 60 degree water.

Wait until you see the West end of the Indian Channel. Wow! Should be exciting. Be careful. I caught a handful of smaller keepers in the bayous up river by swimming soft plastics through and near shallow spawning areas. Nothing else produced for me.
