I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Anybody have any current info on this lake, fishing a TX there in a couple of weeks, and I've never fished it before.

bob o

OUCH half moon is a tough one but someone always has a limit (small limit). i would drop shot the deep weed beds and drop offs. downsize your line and lure size.

good luck

This lake can be super tough...but it will take some weight to win in the spring out there mix it up between power and finesse and you should do well. What tournament are you fishing there?

fiker

Don't fish the Half Moon Lake.  Go to one of the others.

Unless, you can  determine that they are spawning.  Then you can look for smallies on the deep sand, and large ones in the shallows.

If the ski buoys are up, they show a deep area bordered by sand on two sides.

Some guys make the decision to go to Highland land via the channel.  It takes a while, but they claim it's worth it.

Bruin and Blind can be good for spawning smallies.
Woodburn is the most "bassy" looking lake there.

I've fished that chain for years, and I always have trouble getting a limit of keepers.  Lots of Bass, usually not a problem, but they are usually small.
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

NBAA circuit. Thanks for the suggestions. Is there a hp restriction,or speed limit there?

Hooksetter

All the channels are no wake.

Woodburn Lake is no wake also. It is a very "bassy" looking lake, as Fiker said, and has some big largemouths in it. In the summer it is my best producing lake in the chain.

Highland can be worth the trip, it is the least pressured lake in the chain. If you run to the big part of Highland it is about 1 hour round trip from Half Moon, depending on boat traffic.

Patterson has the best mix of largies and smallies. Check out my posts in this topic from last October.

Bruin has a good mixture also, but if the campground is crowded it can be tough to fish due to the jet skis and tubers.

Blind Lake does not get alot of fishing pressure either and has occasionally produced some quality bass for me.

Watson is small but can also provide some limit fish on occasion.

Half Moon gets hammered during the summer by pleasure boaters and jet skis. It can be tough to fish but I have a milk run of a few spots that I always hit on the way in when I am there. Twice they have produced big bass for me in the last few minutes of a tournament.

Overall it is a tough chain to fish. You really have to grind it out for a decent limit, but someone always does.

I have not fished there yet this year but am planning to go Wednesday or Thursday. Team MARVIN just extended my Pro Staff position for another 20 weeks! ;D

Good luck!

Willie
Peace.
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

LOL! Team MARVIN is about to drop me this week.
