I wouldn't use anything less than 12# for baitcast and 10# for spinning with mono. I seem to break line a lot when i set the hook if i go any lighter than that. Maybe i just have some built up aggression that i take out on the bass when i set the hook!?! Give em the ole steroid jerk!!!!! lol

LipRip

I have never used green line. I just thought a colored line would be more visible to fish, not less. How could a line be less visible than clear!?!?!?!

Well, they make camoflauge clothing to blend in with the surroundings. Why not line?

Skulley

I prefer a lo-vis green.  At least that is what I am using when using Bass Pro Excel line.  In Berkley line I try to stay with a lo-vis green or what they call photo-chromatic.  In Stren, lo-vis green again.

Yea,
I hear you, I used to think the same thing

I do like the clear better for night fishing thou
Found out I can see the line better over the green

Hooksetter

Thats the only time I ever had a problem with P-Line. I have had bad spools of line from other brands too. P-Line has been perfect for me since then. It's the only brand I use. I have complete confidence in it!

On my reels without braid, I've had good experiences with Suffix on spininng reels - seems a little stronger than XL and still handles pretty well. Green only for me, and usually 10lb - just my preference. XT on baitcasters, 14lb is my mainstay. Other than pike bite-off's, I don't think I've broke off on a fish in several years now. Darn, now I just jinxed myself!

If they made a clothing to make you clear, it would be better than camo!? right? =)

Vicious makes a mono I tried primarily because I was intrigued by the box or package design. It has a grommet built in to the box so all you do is feed the line through and reel. It's one of those deals like why doesn't everybody sell their line like this. Works really well and the mono worked fine for me. I'm an old XT XL fan, but this stuff really worked well.

I have that line in 14# LoVis green on a rod

I like the line
Here's my thoughts
It's a copolymer and doesn't have much strech at all
It's thick thou, like cable compared to #10 McCoy
I throw craws on it or it doubles as the spinner rod

Sounds like a pretty agressive hookset for crankin'.  Maybe try a glass or composite rod and a sweeping hookset and 8# should be fine.

LipRip

agressive hooksets are so much fun tho!

so back to my point about clear being less visible than a color...........has anyone seen predator!??!?!?   :o

Depends on whether or not you were listening when you Mom always told you to remember to wear clean underwear??

Actually, in old color reaction studies for bass performed down south, the color green was shown to illicit the least negative reaction at all times from largemouth bass. Yellow was shown to illicit the most negative reaction most often. I believe red was shown to illicit either a very aggressive reaction or a negative reaction at various times and/or with various individual bass.

I'd like to read this study......if you could find it!

djkimmel

It was done I think way back in the 70's possibly in Oklahoma? I think Dr. Loren Hill was involved, but my memory that far back is pretty much like the holes in Swiss cheese without the cheese...

Hal Schramm might know about it? Anyone have his number?

brownie

I'm pretty sure it was Loren Hill---probably a study designed to sell his Color-C-lector

djkimmel

It was before the Color-C-Lector and the whole problem I always had with that thought process was just because it was the most visible color didn't mean the bass wanted to hit something that color... whereas the study actually dealt with reaction to color, not what colors where more or less visible.
