Move went fine. The new server is much faster. Which is good!

I'm planning on moving to a new server within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Just a little friendly warning as there might be a few hours of odd behavior when the process starts. I will try to have it done at night or weekend.

Yesterday at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing, science prevailed thanks to many, many persons who took the time to write in, and especially those who showed up to speak before the Commission on Commissioner Walters’ amendment to close bass fishing on the Inland Waterway and Black Lake from May 1 until the third Saturday in June.

Looking for opinions on jerkbaits for st. clair. What do you prefer? pointer 100, 100dd, or staysee 90. I have used the 2 pointers, but never the staysee. The staysee is supposed to dive deeper and have more action. I am going to place an order next weekend. Color suggestions would also be helpful. I am thinking ghost minnow, ghost chartruese shad, and maybe a few others.

McCarter

Pointer 100 SP in Chartreuse Shad.  My favorite for Lake St Clair.  Bomber Long As work good, too.

Never thrown a Staysee.

McCarter himself :-\'

Staysee is a great bait when they're deeper; you can get about 10 feet with one on 10# fluoro.

Pointer 100 is a winner too.  Never used the DD.

Chart. shad is a killer color wherever I go.  Ghost minnow is a winner too.  Check out the new translucent chart. shad, it looks interesting for clearer water.

Check out the Jackall Squad Minnow in Chart. Shad and Sexy Shad. It will really help you catch followers because when you stop jerking it stops moving in less than a second wile Lucky Crafts keep moving forward. The 115s and 95s are the best sizes. I agree with the guys above that the Pointer 100 is best.  Another good one is the Slender Pointer 112.  It has 3 hooks and its more erratic than the PT100.  The 100DD is great for deeper depths and is more erratic than the Staysee 90v2.  There's also a new Staysee 90v3 this year that was designed by Gary Dobyns.  It's weighted and gets even deeper than the v2.

Top colors for St Clair are Chartreuse Shad, Pearl Ayu, Ghost Minnow.  New colors to check out are Ghost Chart Shad, Phanton Chart Shad (Dobyns Color), and Pearl Flake White.  If you haven't seen the new colors, they look killer, especially the Ghost Chart Shad.

Pointers work.  No doubt about it.  I actually like the 78s in the early spring and move to the 100s late spring.  You can't go wrong with any of the colors above, although I didn't see "Bone" listed as one.  That's another good color.  Yes, they are expensive, but if you keep your eyes open, sometimes you will find the less desireable colors discounted pretty heavy, then, all you have to do is take up painting baits and make 'em look however you want.

Another jerkbait that I used last year and the year before in the Spring was an Xcalibur Xt3.  It was a pretty good twitch bait.  Again, they are expensive ($12 or $13 bucks), but if you look around you can find them discounted (picked up a couple of those and a couple of the Xs4 stick bait at the BPS Classic for $6).  They only had the "Gold Bream" color available when I went, but they are now done up in some super secret fish catching colors  :D.

And lastly, one of my alltime favorites, which I don't even know if they make anymore (I know the color I used the most was discontinued) is the Rapala Long Cast Minnow.  It's actually a really good rip bait.  I think it might have been replaced by the X-Rap (very similar body style and lip shape).

took up painting baits a few months ago, not quite professional yet. Jcheetam, seen some of your work at the ufs. Looks awesome. Maybe we can make some money together some day. I have seen custom painted bbz1 shads sell on ebay for as much as 150 $.

Thanks for the compliment.  I've seen some of those BBZs, Sebiles and Tru-Tungstens sell for crazy dough on eBay.  I have a few baits I might put up on eBay, it all depends on if I sell them locally or not.  You should post some of the baits you have done in the Make Your Own Fishing Lures forum.  I'd be interested in seeing some of your work.

I like the LC Pointer 100's and the Staysee. My most productive colors on Clair are Pearl Ayu, Chartreuse Shad or the clown pattern. I know LC has a name for it but I can't recall it right now.

Peace.
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

Every time I've had one of those days with lots of followers on the Pointer 100s, particularly if they are staying down a little, I switch to a Staysee and usually go from seeing to catching, often with dramatic effectiveness.

I get bored easy, so I use a lot of different jerkbaits. I sometimes like a gaudy chartreuse bait too. Some days you just have to really go after them and the bass will really go after a real bright lure best (I even think bright pink might do some damage for some reason...?).

At times, I do the Sturgeon Bay rip with big Rattling Rogues and catch big smallies. Long, hard pull followed by a pause that goes beyond trying the patience of an angler short on patience. When it works, it catches really big smallies. I mostly use a gold Rogue for this, but I like white bellies better than orange. I also have a few smaller Rapala Husky Jerks and a small Lake Police jerkbait that work like a finesse worm for real nervous bass.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
